Now 35, Kelce has been with the Kansas City Chiefs since being drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft out of the University of Cincinnati. Last season was a bit of a down year statistically; he finished with just three touchdowns in the regular season and didn’t find the end zone in the Super Bowl LIX loss to Philadelphia, though he did record four receptions.

Travis Kelce Sends Strong Message to Rest of NFL After Receiving Chiefs’ 2024 AFC Championship Ring
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has stated that he fell short of his own high standards in 2024 and that he doesn’t view the season as a success. The Chiefs recorded the joint-best regular-season record in the NFL last year and won their third-straight AFC Championship, but fell short in the Super Bowl. Many speculated that with a Super Bowl victory, Kelce would have ridden off into the sunset with his pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift. Kelce admitted to dropping some weight during the offseason and revealed how his training has differed from last year. The tight end’s targets and receptions in 2024 remained fairly consistent with previous years, but his yards per reception dropped for the second-straight campaign. Last season was the first year as a starter in which he averaged fewer than 10 yards per receptions, averaging just 8.5.

Travis Kelce is ‘Focused On Winning a Championship’
Back in February, Kelce was one win away from winning a historic “three-peat” championship. Many even speculated that with a Super Bowl victory, Kelce would have ridden off into the sunset with his pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
However, Kelce’s four catches for 39 yards in a blowout loss weren’t in the script. The damaging defeat left Kelce with a potentially difficult decision to make, but one that he now claims was a no-brainer.
“The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them,” Kelce said. “I can’t see myself playing anywhere else. We’ll deal with (2026) down the road, when the time is right. But right now, I’m focused on winning a championship this year.”
The legendary tight end was then asked, “Other than winning another championship, what would make this season a success for you?” Kelce didn’t hesitate in making his feelings known.
“That’s the only way I determine whether it’s a success or not, man. It’s just, kinda, how I’m wired now.”
Kansas City’s players recently received their AFC Championship rings, although it’s not immediately apparent from the way Kelce spoke about his own performances. The tight end’s demeanor when discussing success and his performances is a reminder of how dominant the Chiefs have been in recent years.
The Chiefs have made the Super Bowl in five of the seven years since Patrick Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback, and made the AFC Championship game in all seven. When the success of your season is consistently decided by your results in those games, it sets an extraordinarily high bar.
Kelce Has Dropped Weight For 2025
Kelce is looking noticeably lighter at Chiefs camp this offseason, with some reports suggesting he’d lost as much as 25 pounds. The tight end poured cold water on those reports, but did reveal that he’d switched up his training and had lost weight.
“First of all, I never said that,” he smirked. “Don’t believe all you read on the internet, guys, alright… I’m down some weight from the end of the season last year, but each year’s different. You’ve gotta rebuild it, and this year I’ve got some time to really focus on some form running and some things, earlier in the offseason I just didn’t have time for last year.”
Kelce’s targets and receptions in 2024 remained fairly consistent with previous years, but his yards per reception dropped for the second-straight campaign. Last season was the first year as a starter in which he averaged fewer than 10 yards per reception, averaging just 8.5.
With wide receivers Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Hollywood Brown all hoping for more targets, Kelce will need to rediscover some form to stay relevant in 2025.
