The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday. The Trinidad Lions will hold a pancake breakfast and book sale Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. The Eureka Brass Band will host its first all-ages dance party of the season July 18 at Humboldt Grange No. 501, 5845 Humbolds Hill Road, eureka. The event takes place rain or shine and is open to the public, but no pre-registration is required. It takes place in the parking lot directly behind Walmart.

Tour the marsh
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.
Meet leader Barbara Reisman at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute tour that will focus on plants. This event takes place rain or shine. For more information, call 707-826-2359.
Wetlands workday
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will hold a a Wigi Wetlands volunteer workday Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Volunteers are needed to help create bird-friendly native habitats and restore a section of the bay trail by removing invasive plants and trash. The trail section is located behind the Bayshore Mall and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart.
The Audubon Society will provide tools, gloves and packaged snacks. Contact Eric Nelson etn3115@icloud.com for more information.
Birding walk
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a Southern Humboldt birding walk on Saturday.
This walk includes two to three miles of gentle walking through riparian, grassland and mixed hardwood forests, with bird species varying by season. Year-round residents include jays, towhees, woodpeckers and several raptor species.
Meet at the Tooby Park parking lot located one mile west of Garberville on Sprowl Creek Road. This trip generally occurs on the fourth Saturday of every month at 8:30 a.m. but is subject to change. Contact Tess McGuire to RSVP at tmcguire9130@gmail.com.
Breakfast and books
The Trinidad Lions will hold a pancake breakfast and book sale Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Trinidad School.
The menu includes pancakes, a choice of ham or sausage and eggs, or biscuits and gravy and eggs, plus a beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Proceeds will benefit youth, community and school activities.
Nature journaling
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will continue its free monthly 90-minute activity, “Nature Journaling at the Marsh,” Sunday at 10 a.m.
This event is led by retired teacher and marsh naturalist Lynn Jones. No pre-registration is required, but sessions are limited to the first 10 people to show up at the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street, Arcata. All ages are welcome, as long as participants are able to concentrate quietly for an extended period of time at a selected location in the marsh.
FOAM will provide clipboards and colored pencils; participants need to bring their own paper and a writing implement of their choice to jot notes. A pad to sit on or a folding chair is optional, as are binoculars and guidebooks. Attendees should wear weather-appropriate clothing, which may include a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Dance party
A dance featuring live music and “a great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.
