Family issues troubling health update on famed televangelist: ‘We’re not giving up’
Swaggart, 90, suffered cardiac arrest on June 15 at his home in Louisiana. He was found unresponsive and transported to the hospital, where he was given chest compressions to get a heartbeat back. A spokesperson for Jimmy Swaggart Ministries said he remains in the same condition with no change. He is the cousin of the late singers Jerry Lee Lewis and Mickey Gilley, both of whom passed away in 2022.

He has remained in intensive care. This week, Jimmy Swaggart Ministries spokesperson Megan Kelly said Swaggart remains in the same condition with no change.
“He is currently in ICU surrounded by his family,” Kelly told the Shreveport Times. “There’s still been no change. We are still in a holding pattern.”

Swaggart’s son, Rev. Donnie Swaggart, recently said “without a miracle, his father’s time was “short.”
“But we believe in God. We’re not giving up. We’re going to give the Lord an opportunity to work,” Donnie Swaggart said.
A native of Ferriday, Louisiana, Jimmie Swaggart is the co-pastor of Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge. A fiery orator renowned for his emotionally charged sermons and bombastic musical style, he is the cousin of the late singers Jerry Lee Lewis and Mickey Gilley, both of whom passed away in 2022.

In 1988, Swaggart was propelled into the national spotlight when he spoke from the pulpit, saying “I have sinned” in a live television event after he was photographed going into a hotel with a prostitute. He was later defrocked by the Assemblies of God and became an independent and non-denominational Pentecostal minister.
