Rumor: Galaxy S26 Ultra may change S Pen tech to make way for Qi2 magnets
New rumors indicate that Samsung may drop the S Pen digitizer in the Galaxy S26 Ultra in favor of a new method. Doing so would mean the company could start delivering devices with Qi2 magnetic backs. Samsung is about to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which carries the same S Pen tech, apparently. That phone is set to launch on July 9, alongside the Galaxy Watch 8 series.Samsung has reservations open now for the GalaxyZ Fold 7 and Flip 7 series, with a $50 credit when you pre-order.
According to a sudden rumor from @PandaFlashPro on Twitter/X, Samsung may equip the Galaxy S26 Ultra with a different S Pen tech than currently available in the Ultra series. The current method utilizes a digitizer, and Samsung’s S Pen-clad phones have equipped the same method for years.

Theoretically, removing the S Pen digitizer means there is more room in the device for other modules. A guess made by the source would be that Samsung could actually add magnets to make the device fully Qi2 compatible.
We’ve seen plenty of “Qi2 Ready” promises hit, but that simply refers to the ability to use magnetic cases. We’re looking for complete standard adoption with magnets hidden in the rear panel, similar to MagSage with Apple’s devices.

Another way to look at this sudden internal real estate left by the lack of digitizer would be that Samsung’s could make the phone thinner, though it’d involve much more than removing the digitizer and a full rework would likely be needed. Still, the absence of that older tech means there’s some room to play with, even if we haven’t nailed down what that could mean.
