Health cuts divide the Senate
Senate Republicans are scrambling to pass President Trump’s “big, beautiful” tax and spending bill this week amid divisions over Medicaid cuts and as polls show voters oppose the legislation. Here’s the latest.

Medicaid cuts: GOP senators have struggled to cut billions from health care without harming Americans or the hospitals that provide care. Some have proposed steeper cuts on top of the House-passed bill, which would already leave an estimated 10.9 million uninsured. [AP]
By the numbers: Recent polls show more Americans oppose the bill than support it, while an analysis from the Congressional Budget Office found the poorest households would lose about $1,600 a year and the wealthiest would gain $12,000. [USA Today]
Trump’s push: A new White House report claimed the bill would yield 4.9% economic growth and reduce the deficit by up to $11.1 trillion — a figure that competes with Congress’s Joint Committee on Taxation, which found the Senate’s changes would add $4.2 trillion to the deficit. [Yahoo Finance]

3 QUESTIONS…
about Lorde’s new album
Lorde’s first album in four years, Virgin, drops at midnight tonight. Yahoo reporter Neia Balao filled us in about it.
Jessica: How does this record differ from her previous one, Solar Power?
Neia: Lorde is really leaning into her gender identity with Virgin. Take her second single, “Man of the Year,” for example, which is about embracing her masculinity. I think it feels like a really vulnerable, honest piece of work. She’s defining femininity in her own terms.
Jessica: What’s your favorite single so far?
Neia: I love “What Was That” so much! I think it was such an exhilarating start to her latest era! Also, the music video, which was totally shot on an iPhone, is very vibey — just like her!
Jessica: What are fans saying?
Neia: She had an impromptu listening party in New York City on June 23, and based on the videos I’ve seen on TikTok — fans really seem to be enjoying the album. Another fan described Virgin as the album of the year. … So we’ll see!
