The Wyoming Department of Transportation is alerting motorists that a slow-moving superload will be making its way from Laramie to Medicine Bow beginning Monday, June 30.

According to WYDOT spokeswoman Andrea Staley, the superload, which is carrying a transformer, will be leaving the Laramie railyard on Monday morning and is estimated to make it onto I-80 at the Snowy Range Road on-ramp at mile marker 311 by 10:30 a.m.

From there, the superload will move west to the truck parking lot at milepost 307.

On Tuesday, July 1, the superload will leave the truck parking lot around 5 a.m. and drive to Arlington at mile marker 272 on I-80, which is anticipated to take around two hours.

From there, the superload will take Wyoming 13 to U.S. 30/287 at Rock River, ending its route in Medicine Bow.

Stoppages and Travel Delays Should Be Expected

Staley says due to the size of the superload — it’s 17 feet, 3 inches tall, 26 feet wide, 385 feet long, and weighs 1,484,000 pounds — both lanes of travel will be used.

“Not to cause damage to the interstate the transport will be traveling at 25-30 mph, dropping to 10 mph over bridges,” Staley said in a release. “Stoppages and travel delays should be expected.”

Staley says the transport is anticipated to return to the Laramie railyard the second week of July.

She says two more transformers will be moved this summer, with schedule details to come.
