Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Eshwar B. Khandre, who visited the Hoogyam range and the site of the tragedy, was informed by senior officials that the FSL results would be made available soon.
The incident has triggered various speculations, including lacunae in patrolling due to non-payment made to the outsourced staff.
Speaking to media persons, Mr. Khandre said that the issue of outsourced frontline forest personnel not receiving their salaries on time will also be probed.
If this is found to have any bearing on the death of the five tigers, action will be taken against the concerned officials, he added. Any negligence by officials uncovered during the investigation will invite necessary disciplinary measures, the minister said.
Mr. Khandre said that the death of the tigers was painful and deeply disturbing, and those responsible would not be spared. Hanur MLA M.R. Manjunath, and other investigating officials were present.
T. Heeralal, Chief Conservator of Forests, Chamarajanagar Circle, said that it is 99% a case of poisoning, but has to be corroborated by laboratory analysis and results, which, he said, will be received within a week’s time.
