Tons of A-list celebrities have been spotted arriving ahead of the nuptials, as protests also ring out in the streets (and canals) against the lavish display of wealth, dubbed the “Wedding of the Century.”

The wedding and surrounding fanfare is expected to cost 40-48 million euros, which translates to $46.5 to $55.6 million, Luca Zaia, president of the Veneto regional government that comprises Venice, told reporters on Tuesday (June 24), per Reuters.

Jeff will make charity donations, including 1 million euros for Corila, an academic consortium that studies Venice’s lagoon ecosystem, Italy’s Corriere della Sera newspaper and the ANSA news agency reported as well.

The day and the venue for the wedding ceremony itself are still being kept a secret amid the protests and backlash, but the main party is set for Saturday (June 28) at the Arsenale (the Arsenal), a historical site in the eastern part of the city.

The venue was used to build the Republic of Venice’s naval ships in the 15th century, per Reuters.

It is estimated around 90 private jets will land at Venice and nearby airports such as Treviso and Verona over the next few days. At least 30 water taxis from different companies in Venice have been booked for the wedding guests.

Five of the city’s luxury hotels have been booked out to host an expected 200-250 guests, including Cipriani on the island of Giudecca, and the Aman on the Grand Canal.

Attendees at the wedding, which is taking place over three days in the romantic city, include the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, Orlando Bloom and many more.

While these figures have not been confirmed, reports suggest the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez cost anywhere from $9.5million to $20million.

According to the New York Post, the total price of the event is said to be worth between $9.5million and $11million.

As reported by the publication, a source told NewsNation: “It’s going to be very intimate — just family and close friends. Under 200 people.”

Jeff and Lauren, as well as their guests, are believed to be staying at the Aman Venice and the Gritti Palace, both of which come with a $500,000 price tag – per night.

Meanwhile, TMZ have reported that each of their 200 guests will cost the couple $50,000. If you do the math, that’s a total of $1,000,0000 spent on guests alone.

According to the Daily Mail, $9.5million may be too low of an estimate for the wedding – with the publication reporting that the nuptials will actually set the pair back around $20million.

Following a last-minute change of venue, the pair welcomed a throng of the world’s most famous peeps to a glamorous welcome party in a closed cloister adjacent to the Madonna dell’Orto church on Thursday night.

Bezos, his soon-to-be wife, and their famous guests have taken over numerous locations in the city, with the couple staying in the luxury Aman hotel, where rooms go for at least R80,000 per night.

The couple was photographed exiting the Aman Hotel ahead of the event, and the billionaire mogul could be seen helping his fiancée into a water taxi before they were whisked off to their destination. Following in their wealthy wake were the likes of Kim Kardashian, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Usher, Kylie Jenner, Ivanka Trump, Tom Brady, Orlando Bloom, Leo DiCaprio and many more.

About 90 private jets flew into Venice, and an entire canal was blocked up with guests arriving in a convoy of about 30 boats, while police patrolled the area, including the water on jet skis.

The couple has worked hard to keep the details surrounding their extravagant nuptials under wraps, and according to the insider, the atmosphere was surprisingly low-key considering the high-profile guest list. But the wealthiest gathering for a party was always going to be a global affair, and the world’s entertainment press were out in full force, with Hello! magazine even running a livestream of the festivities.

Despite all the perfect smiles and waves, the locals are not sharing in the joy, and there have already been reports of protests against the event, which, if we’re honest, gives off a Hunger Games vibe. The narrator of the video below also sounds a bit jaded by the whole spectacle.



Protesters have voiced objections to Bezos’ presence in the city ahead of the big day, with Tommaso Cacciari, a part of the “No space for Bezos” campaign, telling Reuters, “Bezos arrogantly believes he can take over the city and turn it into his own private party venue.”

Event organisers Lanza and Baucina Limited addressed protestors’ concerns in a statement to USA TODAY, saying that based on instructions from Bezos and Sánchez, they will minimise “any disruption to the city” and have “respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events.”
