In a surprising turn of events for the Norwegian royal family, eldest son Marius Borg Høiby has been accused of more than 20 crimes, including grievous bodily harm and assault.

As per The Guardian, Oslo police attorney Andreas Kruszewski stated that Høiby is suspected of 23 crimes in total, including r*pe.

The charges included one case of rape involving intercourse and two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault and two cases of bodily harm, Kruszewksi said at a news conference.

He further elaborated that the investigation, which took over 10 months to complete, has currently been handed over to the prosecutors, who will then make a call on whether or not they will press charges.

However, Marius Borg Høiby’s lawyer, Ellen Holager Andenaes, informed Norwegian national news agency NTB that her client rejected the three rape allegations. Høiby had previously admitted to assault and vandalism in 2024.

Additionally, in an email to the Associated Press, defense attorney Petar Sekulic notified them that Høiby has been ‘absolutely taking the accusation very seriously but doesn’t acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases.’

The Troubled Child

The son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon, Marius has been under the scanner ever since his ‘repeated’ arrests in 2024 for s*xual assault and initial charges of bodily harm and damage.

In one of the statements 10 days after his arrest, Marius had said he had performed the acts ‘under the influence of alcohol and cocaine’ and had been suffering from ‘mental troubles’ and struggling with substance abuse.

As per local media reports, Marius Borg Høiby has been associated with gang members, Hells Angels bikers, and even the local Albanian mafia.

The 28-year-old member of the Osloenser aristocracy previously lived with the royal couple and their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, but has been living in a separate accommodation of late.

The State of the Monarchy

Marius Borg Høiby’s antics have dampened the image of the monarchy; however, King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon still remain popular.

Interestingly, a December 2024 poll published by Norwegian broadcaster NRK showed 45 percent of people questioned agreed that their opinion of the royal family was not positive.

The royal palace has not yet commented on the matter.

The eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess has been charged with rape, sexual assault and bodily harm, Norweigan police have said.

The charges follow a months-long investigation of a case involving a “double digit” number of alleged victims.

Marius Borg Høiby, 28, is the stepson of the heir to the Norwegian throne, Crown Prince Haakon, and is the son of Mette-Marit from a previous relationship.

He has no royal title or official duties.

Høiby was arrested three times in 2024 in connection with the case.

Police say that they have conducted a “thorough investigation” of the cases, including a witness interviews, police searches and extensive digital material, including text-messages.

Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski said Høiby was cooperative during police questioning, which is now complete.

Høiby’s defence attorney Petar Sekulic has said the defendant is ““absolutely taking the accusations very seriously, but doesn’t acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases — especially the cases regarding sexual abuse and violence.”

Høiby remains free pending a possible trial and is entitled to a presumption of innocence until a court rules otherwise.

Høiby previously lived with the royal couple and their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, but now lives nearby, according to Sekulic.

Norway’s future queen made headlines in 2001 when she married Haakon because she was a single mother who had once been a companion of Høiby’s father, a felon convicted of drugs charges.

Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of the crown princess of Norway, has been charged with rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm.

According to The Guardian, Oslo police announced the charges on Friday, following a months-long investigation that involved alleged victims in the “double-digit” numbers.

Marius is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to the throne. He was born outside of the Crown Princess’ marriage to Crown Prince Haakon and has been facing backlash since August last year, when he was arrested for his alleged involvement in assaulting his girlfriend.

Police attorney Andreas Kruszweski spoke to reporters recently to announce the charges brought about by the 10-month-long investigation. Marius Borg Høiby was suspected of “one count of rape with sexual intercourse” and “two counts of rape without sexual intercourse,” Kruszweski said.

Høiby’s lawyer, Ellen Holager Andenaes, had previously told news agency NTB that her client was maintaining his innocence against the three rape allegations. Kruszewski said Marius Borg Høiby cooperated with police during interrogations, adding that evidence was drawn from text exchanges, witness testimonies, and police searches.

Høiby was raised alongside his stepsiblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 21, and Prince Sverre Magnus, 19, but bears no official role in the public, CBS News has reported. His defense attorney, Petar Sekulic, revealed that his 28-year-old client previously stayed with the royal family but now has his own home nearby.

“I cannot go into further detail about the number of victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a double-digit number,” Kruszewski added.

Sekulic also told the Associated Press in an email that his client was

Kruszewski also revealed that Marius Borg Høiby was suspected of

As of this writing, the royal family, which remains widely admired in Norway, has yet to issue an official statement. Marius Borg Høiby remains free, pending a possible trial. He stands innocent until proven guilty.
