During the QCL segment interview, the following travel recommendations are explored:
Iowa- The Trout Run Trail in Decorah offers a full circle, 11-mile bike trail. Tourists are advised to park in the Wal-Mart parking lot, for easy on and easy off. After the ride, you can’t go wrong with pizza at Mabe’s or by stopping in at Toppling Goliath (featured in Broers’ book 100 Things to do in Iowa Before You Die ). Alabama- Gulf Shores & Orange Beach-It’s 32 miles of beaches and Allegiant Airlines has announced a direct flight from Des Moines to Gulf Shores starting in October of 2025. Accommodations at The Beach Club Resort & Spa or Turquoise Place are wonderful. Indiana- Shipshewana is in LaGrange County, America’s 3rd largest Amish Community. For cyclists, riding the Pumpkinvine Bike Trail is a possibility along with experiencing a meal in an Amish home, and taking in a show at the Blue Gate Theater. Horses and buggies rule the countryside in this area of Northern Indiana. It’s home to Shipshewana Flea Market- the largest flea market in the Midwest. Ohio- Shores & Islands, Ohio – Did you know Ohio has islands? Put-in-Bay and Kelley’s Island are two islands you can visit near Sandusky, Ohio. Kelley’s Island is more relaxed and laid back, and Put In Bay is more commercialized. Both have wineries and island experiences that are unique. For exploring, ride a golf cart around the island. The Charles Herndon Gallery & Sculpture Garden is a must-visit when you visit Kelley’s Island. Visit the African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton, Ohio for a fun experience of feeding a giraffe. North Dakota, Medora- The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in July 2026. Medora is home to the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the longest-running outdoor musical in the country, The Medora Musical. Iowa- Fort Dodge- Fort Dodge is home to Iowa’s tallest mural, 100 feet tall and featured in Perfect Day Iowa. Fort Dodge is also home to one of Iowa’s newest tourist attractions, Matt Cosgrove River’s Edge Discovery Center. This latest discovery center tells the story of Iowa’s waterways, but it also offers hands-on experiences for kids of all ages.
