The Indiana Fever suffered their second straight loss on Sunday, falling 89-81 to the Las Vegas Aces.

Just like their loss against the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday, Caitlin Clark and the Fever led in the second half against a team with a sub-.500 record, only to give the game away late.

Indiana ends the week with a 6-7 record, including a 2-4 mark on the road. Across the back-to-back losses, Clark went a combined 1-for-17 from three-point range and turned the ball over 14 times.

When questioned about the pattern of giving games away, the 23-year-old guard gave her honest assessment on where the Fever are as a team.

“I feel like we’re really close to being really good,” Clark said with a smile in the postgame press conference in Las Vegas. “That’s what’s been frustrating about these few losses.”

“For us today, I think this is much different than the Golden State loss,” she explained. “Golden State, we just got straight up outplayed and out-hustled. Tonight we did things really well for a good portion of the game… down the stretch we just couldn’t find a way to get it done.”

Three of the Fever’s seven losses — against the Atlanta Dream, New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun — have come in one-score games.

The Fever have also managed to beat three of the teams they lost to in their second matchup of the season.

It will be a quick turnaround before another prove-it game for the Fever, a showdown with the Seattle Storm on the road Tuesday night.

They then wrap up the busy stretch of games with a back-to-back against the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday at home and the Dallas Wings on Friday on the road.

After that, it will be even more clear how close the Fever are to Clark’s assessment that they can still be “really good.”
