COON RAPIDS, Minn. (KTTC) – Former President Joe Biden is in Minnesota for the Saturday funerals of Melissa and Mark Hortman.

The state representative and her husband were gunned down in their Brooklyn Park home on June 14, in what investigators have deemed a politically-motivated assassination.

State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were targeted in their nearby Champlin home prior to the Hortmans, according to authorities. Both survived their gunshot wounds.

The senator continues to recover from his injuries in a Coon Rapids hospital. Friday, Yvette shared a photo of the Hoffman family and the former president, who is in the Twin Cities to pay his respects to the Hortmans.

Yvette said her husband’s condition continues to improve, adding he is alert and has been up walking around. She was released from the hospital last week.

Prior to his hospital visit, Biden was at the state Capitol for the public viewing of Melissa and Mark. They are the first couple to lie in state in Minnesota in unison, along with their dog Gilbert also involved in the attacks.

According to The Associated Press, the former president and former Vice President Kamala Harris will both attend Saturday’s private funeral service for the Hortmans. It starts at 10:30 a.m. and will be livestreamed by the Department of Public Safety.
