The party says BJP, in its latest internal survey, had found they would get no more than 46-49 seats if assembly elections were to be held in Bengal today. Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien said the CM had called the special intensive Revision a “backdoor entry for NRC (National Register of Citizens)

Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien said, “BJP’s latest internal survey for Bengal shows 46-49 seats for them if assembly polls are held today. In their desperate attempt to change or attempt to change this, they are doing this (revision of electoral rolls).”
O’Brien further said the CM had called the special intensive revision a “backdoor entry for NRC (National Register of Citizens)”. “Before the 2021 Bengal polls, CAA was brought (in), but BJP lost.
And now, before 2026 (they are attempting the same). In the last year in Bengal, there have been 11 bypolls. We won seven seats by big margins. We are with the people,” he added.
He also alleged that the EC was not providing Trinamool time to make its point.
Sagarika Ghose, Trinamool’s deputy leader in Rajya Sabha, called the revision a plan to deprive the poor of voting rights. “Do we all keep birth certificates of our parents? What about poor and migrant labourers?” she asked.
Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said BJP insiders have come to know their party will not cross 48 seats. “Hence, they are trying to create a ghotala. Bihar toh bahana hai, your target is Bengal. But Bengal shall not bow before you,” Ghosh added.
