Store owner Stephen “Lee” Knight said he sold his Hotrod’s Used Furniture store property so he could retire.
Knight said he has received lots of social media engagement after the announcement of the closing. Knight also said Berea community members and customers who he sees as family are devastated since they loved his shop.
“It’s a part of my heart and it will always, always be a part of my heart, just like the Berea community,” Knight said. “I love my community. I love everybody in it and they’ve been good to me and it’s sad. It’s a sad day, but you know, when it’s time, it’s time. And it’s time.”
Knight says during retirement, he plans to leave the Upstate and head to Myrtle Beach where he wants to travel on his boat.
Within the next year, Knight said he might possibly have a new small shop in Myrtle Beach.
Knight said this is Hotrod’s last weekend open. He will stay open a few days after the weekend before finally closing up shop.
