What is being investigated?
ESPN reports that during the 2023-24 season, when Beasley was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, unusual betting trends started popping up around January 2024, heavily invested in Beasley’s statistics.
One of their sources even mentions a game against the Portland Trail Blazers where Beasley’s rebounds line was set at 2.5 and drew an insane amount of under bets, pushing the money from +120 to -250. Although Beasley wound up with six rebounds, ensuring all of those bets lost, the heavy interest in Beasley’s stats were hard to ignore.

October 8: Sporting KC’s Felipe Hernandez
An investigation launched earlier in 2021 revealed Hernandez had been engaging in “extensive and unlawful sports gambling” on MLS contests while playing for the club. The investigation began in July after Hernandez admitted to his team that he was concerned about the debts he’d accumulated while betting on those games.
Per MLS, Hernandez will be eligible for reinstatement in MLS on January 1, 2026.

March 7: Tennessee Titans WR Calvin Ridley
Ridley was suspended for the entirety of the 2022 season after the NFL discovered he had gambled on games in November 2021 while injured. Reports indicated that one of Ridley’s bets included expecting his then-team, the Atlanta Falcons, to win. Ridley was reinstated in March 2023.
December 23: New York Jets WR coach Miles Austin
Austin was suspended for at least one year for violating the NFL’s gambling policy. Austin was not gambling on NFL games at least, but that still violated the NFL’s policies.

April 21: Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was among five players (Quintez Cephus, Stanley Berryhill, C.J. Cephus, Moore, and Toney were all suspended indefinitely.
June 29: Indianapolis Colts’ Isaiah Rodgers Sr. and Rashod Berry
Rodgers, Berry, and free agent Demetrius Taylor were suspended through the 2023 NFL season for betting on 2022 NFL games. Rodgers claimed that he only made bets on behalf of others.

Pinto was suspended 41 games for violating the NHL’s sports wagering policy. It remains unclear how exactly Pinto violated the policy; he did have a gambling account that had been flagged due to unusual activity.
2024:
January 25: New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte
Kayshon Boutte was charged with a felony count of computer fraud and a misdemeanor count of gambling underage. Boutte used fake names and identification to maneuver around the age requirement. He placed bets in Louisiana between April 6, 2022 and May 7, 2023. Boutte was 20 years old at the time.
March 20: Shohei Ohtani interpreter Ippei Mizuhara

Rozier’s scandal involves a series of curious bets placed on him during a March 2023 game, while Rozier was still a member of the Charlotte Hornets. Rozier’s investigation is part of the same investigation that led to Jontay Porter’s lifetime suspension. The NBA has stated that it investigated the matter but did not find any evidence of a breach of league rules.
June 29: Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley
Similar to Rozier’s situation, a series of strange bets placed around January 2024, heavily interested in Beasley’s stats, are being investigated. Beasley has not been charged with any crime and has not faced any punishment from the NBA.
