The event, which drew lakhs of devotees, to witness the pulling of chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, saw an unprecedented crowd surge towards the station as the procession halted in the evening.

“As the chariots halted on the Grand Road, thousands of devotees rushed towards the railway station, creating a stampede-like situation. Quick-thinking officials from GRP and RPF swiftly revised their deployment strategies, forming human chains and zigzag cordons to manage the crowd effectively. Their timely intervention ensured no casualties occurred,” a statement from GRP read.

It added that special attention was given to vulnerable groups, with quick reaction teams and additional manpower deployed to high-density areas.
