Citing Market Conditions, Sony Has Increased The Price Of Digital PlayStation Titles In Brazil And Turkey
Digital titles on the PlayStation Store have now also seen an increase. Silent Hill f has gone from R$349.90 to R$399.90, while Astro Bot has jumped from R $299.90 and R$339.90. In Turkey, Ghost of Yōtei is being sold digitally for 3,449 Turkish Liras, which is the equivalent of nearly $87 USD.
Following a recent increase in the cost of PlayStation Plus annual subscription fees, digital titles on the PlayStation Store have now also seen an increase.
The Price Increases Make It Virtually Unaffordable To Game In These Regions
Following some recent posts on Reddit, GameVicio, a Brazilian website dedicated to covering video games, has shared that price increases, which were reportedly anticipated to come in September, have ended up arriving earlier, impacting several marquee titles.
In their post, they note, for example, Silent Hill f has gone from R$349.90 to R$399.90, while the already released Astro Bot has jumped from R$299.90 to R$339.90. For reference, 399.90 Brazilian Real is the equivalent of $72.96 in USD, due to the poor performance of the currency, largely considered one of the worst-performing in all the world.
The website further states that physical copies of games have remained unchanged, though that could obviously shift.
Similarly, a user in Turkey provided an example of how the pricing changes have taken root in their home.
“It’s a very bad situation for Turkish players,” a separate Turkish gamer noted. “We are having trouble buying games now.”
Ghost of Yōtei is being sold digitally for 3,449 Turkish Liras, which is the equivalent of nearly $87 USD. For someone who might be taking home 7,830 Turkish Liras a month, the video game represents more than 20% of their salary.
It’s all created a situation that seemingly desperately needs a solution to, or at the very least a heavy-handed explanation, especially given the varying economic dynamics that exist from one country to the next.
