Strategic oversight

The finance lead trustee will work with ICOM UK’s strategic director to guide and advise the Board on its financial duties and responsibilities. The role will include the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements within a financial policy framework.

Additionally, they will help ensure that appropriate financial measures, accounting procedures, and financial policies and controls are in place, as appropriate for the charity and company, and contribute to the Governance & Risk Committee.

ICOM UK uses an independent accountancy company to prepare its annual accounts. The strategic director and administrator support day-to-day financial management, operations and bookkeeping.

As such, the role of finance lead trustee is focused on strategic oversight and requires expertise in financial planning and management. Experience in a charity and/or company is preferred. Recently, ICOM UK hosted a free online event for students and emerging professionals in the museum and cultural sector, titled So Millennial! Exploring intergenerational interactions in museum workplaces.

In this session, Miranda Stearn, curator at Lancaster Arts, discussed her research exploring intergenerational learning and intergenerational dissonance within the museum and wider cultural workforce as part of a Clore Leadership Fellowship.
