New Delhi:

Honor is preparing to shake up the global premium smartphone market with its upcoming foldable phone, the Honor Magic V3. The device is being touted as the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone and is expected to offer features that directly rival and even outdo, Samsung’s newly launched Galaxy S25 Edge.

Honor, which has gained recognition globally for its premium devices, is looking to expand its dominance by offering a smartphone that pushes boundaries in design, power, and innovation.

Slimmer than Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge

Samsung recently introduced its slimmest device to date — the Galaxy S25 Edge, with a thickness of just 5.8mm. However, Honor is going one step further. The upcoming Honor Magic V3 will reportedly feature a jaw-dropping thickness of just 4.3mm in its unfolded state, making it the slimmest smartphone ever made.

This impressive design could position Honor as a serious contender in the high-end smartphone space, especially as Samsung continues to dominate with its Galaxy lineup.

Honor’s bold teaser Sparks rivalry

Honor recently teased the launch of the Magic V3 on X (formerly Twitter) with a sharp message aimed directly at Samsung. The company posted:

“Why thin if you’re making compromises to get there?”

The post also included the tagline:

“THIN without the catch”, suggesting that Honor has managed to achieve slimness without sacrificing performance or features.

Bigger battery, no compromises

One of the key criticisms of Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge has been its relatively small 3900mAh battery, a necessary trade-off to achieve its slim frame. In contrast, Honor has teased that the Magic V3 will pack a massive 5050mAh battery — an impressive feat for such a slim foldable device.

While it’s worth noting that the 4.3mm thickness applies only when the phone is unfolded, it still highlights Honor’s engineering edge in balancing design and functionality.

Launch expected soon

Honor Magic V3 is expected to launch in the coming months and will fall into the premium smartphone category. With its ultra-thin profile, foldable display, and high-capacity battery, it is set to give tough competition to Samsung and other flagship brands.

As Honor sharpens its strategy to take on industry giants, all eyes will be on the Magic V3’s official launch — a device that could redefine what users expect from foldable smartphones.

The Honor Magic V5 could soon be joining the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Vivo X Fold5 in a shake up of the foldable market. Allegedly set to combine a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with a circa-6,000 mAh battery that supports 80 W wired charging, the Honor Magic V5 is also now expected to outshine its peers with a dazzling Silk Gold colourway.

Vivo has just confirmed that its next foldable will be launching before the month is out with a whole series of improvements over last year’s X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro. Among them are a new set of colour options, which also appear to eschew the textured finishes in which prior X Fold generations were available.

By all accounts, the Honor Magic V5 will not be far behind either. For the time being, Honor has already suggested that its Magic V3 successor will be ready before the summer. Ultimately, the lack of teasers and proximity to summer 2025 effectively confirms that the Magic V5 will arrive after Vivo unveils the X Fold5 on June 25. To that end, the Magic V5 was recently spotted matching the Oppo Find N5 when it comes to wired charging capabilities.

Now, a well-regarded Weibo leaker has delivered a few insights into the colour options that Honor has planned for its next foldable. Like the X Fold5, the Magic V5 is expected to bring new finishes to the table, including a Silk Gold variant. Inferred as a ‘shiny gold’ finish, Silk Gold is believed to be joined by the Velvet Black, Tundra Green and Snow White options in which the Magic V3 is available.

The Honor 200 series smartphones were only introduced a few months ago, and now the Honor 300 Pro is already in the starting blocks. There is still no official, precise information from the manufacturer, but a photo or rendering has already emerged. While the front is not really exciting, the same cannot be said for the back. Honor appears to have installed several cameras that are arranged in a kind of droplet and clearly stand out from the rest of the back.

In any case, the image shows that this is a smartphone with multiple cameras. All other information is still speculation, but we can still make some reasonable deductions about the Honor 300 Pro from the Honor 200 Pro. It is very unlikely that Honor will install a slower computing chip, so the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is a likely option.

The Honor 200 Pro, which we have already reviewed here at Notebookcheck, comes with a 5,300 mAh and thus generously sized battery that can be charged with 100 watts via USB and a whopping 66 watts wirelessly. One can safely assume that the Honor 300 will at the very least inherit a similar sized battery and similar charging capabilities as well as a similar periscope camera: the predecessor also has a periscope camera with 2.5x optical zoom. This lens is equipped with optical image stabilization, allowing sharp images to be taken even without a lens. The Honor 300 Pro is also likely to have a screen with a higher refresh rate; the predecessor has a resolution of 2,700 x 1,224 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Honor Magic V5: Impressive camera samples, all colours options and potential IP69 rating

The Honor Magic V5 is set to take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 with the thinnest foldable design ever. Based on impressive early photo samples, its AImage camera could also outshine the Fold 7’s 200 MP triple-lens setup, particularly in macro photography. However, the marginal difference in thickness (0.2 mm, according to official specs) probably won’t matter much in everyday use.

If the leaked specs prove accurate, there is yet another standout feature waiting to be unveiled.

Honor will claim the title of releasing the world’s thinnest foldable on 2 July 2025 – even as Samsung, its main competitor, prepares to showcase the Galaxy Z Fold 7 just a week later. However, the marginal difference in thickness (0.2 mm, according to official specs) probably won’t matter much in everyday use. Instead, consumers are more likely to base their purchase decisions on other factors, such as the camera system. For the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung is expected to upgrade the main camera to a 200 MP sensor whilst retaining the same 3x telephoto and ultrawide lenses found on the Z Fold 6.

Samsung phones typically lack a telemacro feature, and this is exactly where Honor could steal the show, as demonstrated by early camera samples. Rather than being official samples from Honor, these photos were shared by a Chinese blogger, lending added credibility to the device’s photography capabilities. The 70 mm f/2.5 telephoto lens on the successor to the Honor Magic V3 (available here on Amazon) certainly delivers impressive close-up shots for a foldable phone, with many online commenters noting that it rivals typical smartphone cameras in quality.
