MPR News has put together a timeline of the events lead up to and following the fatal shooting of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark on Saturday.

Misinformation has been rampant in the aftermath of Saturday’s attacks, and some elected officials are contributing to the online maelstrom. Wisconsin Public Radio reports that U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden has posted a number of false claims and attacks on Gov. Tim Walz.

In the same vein, WCCO News has published a fact check on the nature of Gov. Walz’s appointment of murder suspect Vance Boelter to the Minnesota Governor’s Workforce Development Board. What does that appointment mean?

NBC News reports that “a North Dakota man has been charged after he allegedly emailed violent threats to a federal prosecutor and cited the weekend fatal shooting of Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband.”

And in other news, The Associated Press reports that “Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel said Wednesday they have finalized their ‘historic partnership,’ a year and a half after the Japanese company first proposed its deal to buy the iconic American steelmaker for nearly $15 billion.”
