HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – School is out, and that means there may be more traffic on the roads. AAA said to expect more traffic on the road overall this season.

Ragina Ali, public and government affairs manager for AAA in the Maryland and the Washington D.C. Metro area, said we could see lighter traffic during the early morning and afternoon commutes because there are no buses picking up and dropping off students. Ali said you should make sure your car is ready.

“The average [life] of a car now is about 12.8 years, so people are keeping their cars longer,” Ali said. “Check your battery to make sure your battery is in good shape. The typical battery life is anywhere between 3 and 5 years.”

Ali said the hot weather can cause issues with your car battery.

“You typically equate having battery issues in the cold weather months, but I can tell you we also see issues with batteries in the summer months, especially when it is excessively hot,” Ali said.

With summer travel trends, AAA is seeing more people take mini vacations closer to home or traveling within their state. Ali said AAA is also seeing more travel connected to ticketed events, like concerts.
