AAA estimates 4.2 million Illinois residents will travel the week of July 4th
AAA expects 4.2 million Illinoisians to travel between June 28 and July 6, the July 4th holiday period. 104,000 more people expected to hit the road, skies and rails than last year. Orlando, Florida and Seattle, Washington domestically and Vancouver, Canada and Rome, Italy internationally are the most popular travel spots. The best and worst times to travel by car according to AAA: June 28 noon-5 p.m. and July 5 11 a.m.- 5 p.M.
The amount of Illinois residents expected to travel during the July 4th holiday in 2025 could reach historic levels, with 104,000 more people expected to hit the road, skies and rails than last year.

“Independence Day is one of the most popular times for travel, with Americans eager to take advantage of summer vacation opportunities,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of AAA Travel. “This year, we’re seeing strong demand for road trips, flights and cruises, especially with the holiday falling on a Friday. This is allowing travelers to extend their getaways and make lasting memories with loved ones.”
AAA booking data shows the most popular travel spots are Orlando, Florida and Seattle, Washington domestically and Vancouver, Canada and Rome, Italy internationally. They say cruises, beaches and fireworks are the main motivators for travelers to head to these locations.
