Aaron Rodgers turned down more money from Steelers, per report
A new report has shed light on some never-before-heard details regarding Aaron Rodgers’ contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Former Steelers cornerback turned CBS Sports analyst Bryant McFadden said Rodgers turned down additional money on his contract. McFadden: “It wasn’t about money because [the Steelers] are giving him around $13 million or something like that’s what he wanted”
The Rodgers-to-Pittsburgh signing dominated NFL headlines, but there’s more to discuss months later thanks to insider information from former Steelers cornerback turned CBS Sports analyst Bryant McFadden — specifically how Rodgers turned down additional money on his contract.
“It wasn’t about money because [the Steelers] are giving him around $13 million or something like that,” McFadden said via 93.7 The Fan. “And I got word that he actually could have gotten more, but that’s what he wanted… They were willing to offer more. It would have been a situation where they were willing to pay him more than what he’s actually receiving, but Aaron was like, ‘No, man, this is what I would take and I just wanna play ball.’ That tells me this is a guy that’s all in. I love that. That’s what our team was about when I was there.”
The days of putting the team first, above contract amounts, are long gone — which has become even more evident in the Steelers’ ongoing contract dilemma with veteran DT Cameron Heyward, who’s looking for another payday just one year removed from signing an extension.
