Overtime was on the road again. It was a very busy Friday at Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs returned home after an emotional week. It began Monday, when Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg died after a battle with cancer. Then, the Cubs announced GM Jed Hoyer would receive an extension. Thursday, the trade deadline passed, and the Cubs didn’t make any significant moves because they didn’t want to give up any significant prospects. And then on Friday, it was announced the MLB All-Star Game would return to Wrigley for the first time since 1990. ESPN Radio’s Jesse Rogers joined Dionne to discuss it all.
Dionne interviewed Barry Rozner, a former Cubs beat writer for the Daily Herald. He did countless interviews with Ryne Sandberg and developed a close enough relationship over the years that he helped Sandberg write his Hall of Fame speech. Rozner talked about how Sandberg was truly one-of-one and will be sorely missed.
Dionne switched topics to football and did an interview with Chicago Bears Safety Kevin Byard III. He talked about how tough last season was and told Dionne he already sees a new direction under first-year Head Coach Ben Johnson.
Looking ahead, second-year Quarterback Caleb Williams is preparing to lead the Bears into their first pre-season game next week.
