Adam Schefter’s latest on Bengals, Shemar Stewart isn’t positive
Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick Shemar Stewart remains a focal point ahead of training camp. NFL insider Adam Schefter wondered if the Bengals will have to throw in the proverbial towel on topic. Schefter: “I think he’s dug in on the language”, “He doesn’t want to be the first one and be made an example of”
Stewart’s contract saga with the Bengals took center stage on a recent radio show, with NFL insider Adam Schefter giving his take on the whole ordeal.
Shefter, appearing on the “Rothman and Ice Show” this week, wondered if the Bengals will have to throw in the proverbial towel on topic.
“I think he’s dug in on the language”, Schefter said. “He doesn’t want to be the first one and be made an example of. The Bengals haven’t had this language before. Other teams have had it, but the Bengals haven’t, and he doesn’t want to be the guy. He seems unwilling to budge”.

The Bengals were strange to choose this year as the time to attempt a reset of language precedent in their contracts relating to the voiding of guarantees.
For his part, Stewart took a bold stance of his own in electing not to sign injury waivers and at least practice with his teammates while still unsigned, a rarity for rookies.
A smart decision or not by the Bengals, both parties benefit if Stewart is actually on the field and developing. But whether that means one party blinks or they come to an agreeable compromise remains to be seen.
