AI for Good Summit 2025 – Enabling AI for Health Innovation and Access

At the AI for Good Summit 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners will host a workshop session. The session aims to advance standardized AI for Health (AI4H) guidelines, strengthen cross-sector collaboration, and broaden engagement across the global health and AI communities. It will focus on three key themes: the global landscape of AI for health, real-world use cases at the frontlines of healthcare, and the intersection of intellectual property and AI in health. It also includes a sneak peek at WHO’s AI in Traditional Medicine Technical Brief, ahead of its launch on Centre Stage at 14:40 CET on July 11, 2025, at the Palexpo in Geneva. The event is free and open to the public, but in-person attendance is required. For more information, visit the WHO website.

At the AI for Good Summit 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners—the founding UN agencies of the Global Initiative on AI for Health (GI-AI4H), including ITU and WIPO—will host a workshop session titled “Enabling AI for Health Innovation and Access.” The session aims to advance standardized AI for Health (AI4H) guidelines, strengthen cross-sector collaboration, and broaden engagement across the global health and AI communities.

The session also includes a sneak peek at WHO’s AI in Traditional Medicine Technical Brief, ahead of its launch on Centre Stage at 14:40 CET.

Tailored for policymakers, technologists, health practitioners, and humanitarian leaders, the session will focus on three key themes: the global landscape of AI for health, real-world use cases at the frontlines of healthcare, the intersection of intellectual property and AI in health

As health systems worldwide grapple with rising demand, limited resources, and disparities in access, AI offers significant potential to enhance emergency response, optimize resource allocation, and expand access to care. However, the swift integration of AI into health ecosystems requires robust frameworks for interoperability, ethical governance, and scalable implementation.

Session Details:

Date: 11 July 2025 | 09:00 – 12:15

Promote responsible use of AI and its potential in transforming public health sector

Facilitate critical discussion and debate between research, innovation and intellectual property

Raise awareness of the ongoing inter-UN agency AI for health efforts

Workshop highlights:

Strategy and Frameworks for AI in Health, highlighting standards, policies, and guidance in responsible AI integration in health system, elaborating how GI-AI4H drives global cooperation by standardized frameworks, knowledge-sharing, and pilot initiatives.

Real-world AI-enabled solutions for global health challenges, such as large language models for conflict-zone triage, AI-driven diagnostics for NCDs, IP commercialization pathways for health technologies, etc.

Intersection of artificial intelligence and IP law, discussing the evolving legal landscape, ethical considerations, and strategies for managing intellectual property in the age of AI.

Workshop expected outcomes:

Increased visibility of GI – AI4H’s works in addressing multidisciplinary health challenges.

Inspired and informed stakeholders to advocate for responsible use of AI in health.

Successful introduction of technical standards, governance strategies, IP commercialization pathways, localized implementation and scaled AI health solutions for shaping the AI for health landscape to the AI and health ecosystem.

AI for Health (AIH)

The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to advance healthcare and address pressing global health challenges, including those linked to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As the rapid pace of technological innovation continues to outstrip the development of legal and ethical frameworks, WHO is stepping forward to close this critical “pacing gap.”

Through the AI for Health (AIH) initiative, WHO is actively supporting Member States by

Providing strategic guidance on the integration of AI into health systems

Developing global ethical standards for AI in health

Convening expert advisory groups and multi-sectoral stakeholders

Promoting responsible, inclusive, and trustworthy AI development

Fostering cross-sector collaboration to mitigate risks and safeguard public health

WHO envisions a future where AI is a force for innovation, equity, and ethical integrity in healthcare. The overarching goal is to support Member States in harnessing AI to bring smarter, more sustainable, and people-centered health services to communities worldwide.
