The AirPods family looks set to get a big upgrade at WWDC 2025 thanks to several new features coming to Apple’s wireless earbuds in tandem with iOS 26 and macOS 26.

According to a report from 9to5Mac, at least five new updates coming to Apple’s native apps will result in greater functionality with AirPods and could be announced during the keynote.

New head gestures

Apple’s head gestures for AirPods arrived last year, allowing you to to nod or shake your head to accept or decline calls. You could do the same to interact with or dismiss certain notifications. This year, we could see these gestures expanded to include new head gestures.

One of which seems likely to between extending the time a Conversation Awareness volume change lasts for. At present, you can end a volume adjustment by either pressing and holding the AirPods stem or swiping up, but this would give you a nice hands-free gesture to accomplish the same thing.

Auto-pause for sleep

Are you guilty of falling asleep while wearing your AirPods? A new auto-pause feature could debut next week that will trigger when the wearer falls asleep.

What’s not clear at this point is whether or not the AirPods will deduce when you fall asleep themselves or if this feature needs to work in tandem with the Apple Watch to be successful.

Camera control

Giving its users more ways to control their iPhone camera is the name of the game this year. First we had the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 and now it seems the AirPods are getting in on the action.

According to 9to5Mac’s sources, the this new feature built into iOS 26 and iPad OS 26 will allow users to snap a picture from their iPhone or iPad by squeezing the AirPods’ stem. We could start seeing a lot of pictures where iPhone users are all holding their ears.

Microphone enhancement

One of the big features the iPhone 16 launched with was “Audio Mix”, which used AI to separate background noise from speech to deliver “studio quality” audio when you record videos. We put it to the test and it’s genuinely impressive.

Well, those smarts look to be coming to the AirPods via an upgrade that would essentially give them a studio quality mic. That would, presumably, allow them to compete with lapel mics for video creators. And, of course, it’ll make you sound better when taking phone calls.

Better pairing

Being able to pair AirPods seamlessly with multiple Apple devices is one of the reasons the headphones are as well-loved as they are. Now it seems Apple is looking to develop its pairing technology to make it easier for AirPods to be paired with shared iPads.

According to 9to5Mac, this is likely to be used in classroom and other teaching environments where multiple students use the same device.

The unnamed sources speaking to 9to5Mac seem pretty convinced Apple will reveal these features during the opening keynote at WWDC 2025 next week.

Everything kicks off with that keynote on June 9 as Apple will give us updates on all the software improvements its been working on. And we’re expecting a major UI overhaul and a brand new naming convention to go along with it.

Apple’s all-new AirPods 4 are available in two models: one with active noise cancellation, priced at $179 / £179, and one without, costing $129 / £129.

Apple says the AirPods 4 are the best-fitting AirPods ever and feature a new refined contour and shorter stem. The AirPods include Apple’s H2 chip that supports personalized spatial audio and voice isolation to improve the quality of phone calls in loud conditions. Other features include new controls for playing music and muting calls, a case that delivers 30 hours of battery life, and support for USB-C for wireless charging.

There are plenty of AirPods deals to be found for the 2019 AirPods that had a launch price of $159 / £159 / AU$249. But thanks to the AirPods 3 release, you can find frequent discounts on the 2nd generation AirPods, dropping as low as $99 / £99 / AU$99.

While the AirPods 2 lack noise cancellation, the 2nd generation earbuds come with Apple’s H1 chip to deliver quality sound and faster pairing with seamless connectivity. The H1 chip also offers voice control via Siri, so you can get directions, skip songs, and make calls completely hands-free. You’re also getting improved sound with spatial audio, resulting in a more immersive experience, and a MagSafe charging case that provides more than 30 hours of total listening time.

In September of 2022, the long-awaited AirPods Pro 2 launched with a starting price of $249 / £249 / AU$399. You’re getting enhanced noise cancellation and overall sound quality thanks to Apple’s new H2 chip and improved in-ear detection and touch controls for volume adjustment. At the 2023 Apple September event, the AirPods Pro 2 received an upgrade and now come with a USB-C charging case, so you don’t have to rely on a Lightning cable, plus additional dust resistance and Lossless Audio with Apple Vision Pro.

Thanks to recent holiday sales, we’ve already seen impressive AirPods Pro deals, with record-low prices reaching $189.99 in the US.

The original AirPods Pro were released in 2019 with a starting price of $249 / £249 / AU$399. While the earbuds are no longer available to purchase from the Apple store, you can sometimes find the original AirPods Pro on sale at third-party retailers.

The AirPods Pro were the first AirPods to include active noise-canceling technology to keep outside distractions away from your music, which is excellent for those noisy commutes or keeping your concentration going at work. The best AirPods Max deals

Apple quietly released the AirPods Max in December of 2020 as Apple’s most expensive headphones with a starting price of $549.99 / £549.

The AirPods Max not only stand out because of their price, but the Apple headphones also feature an over-ear design, which is a first from the AirPods line. Apple claims the AirPods Max bring the magic of AirPods to an over-the-ear design, which means you’re getting Active Noise Cancellation, powerful H1 Chips, and an enhanced audio experience.

The AirPods Max also feature a unique design with a breathable knit mesh headband and a stainless steel frame with memory foam earcups for ultimate comfort. The Apple headphones come in several sleek color choices, such as space gray, silver, sky blue, green, and pink, and provide up to 20 hours of battery life.

How much are AirPods?

The official AirPods’ price is $159 in the US and £159 in the UK and $249 in Australia. So you shouldn’t pay any more. Although, we have seen some stores cheekily push the price up when stock thins out. If you’re looking for the version with the wireless charging case, then prices shoot up to around $199 in the US and £199 in the UK.

Expect the usual outlets to charge closer to the MSRP and, better yet, potentially dip below it around the key shopping seasons. Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait long for some proper Apple AirPod sales though!

What about the original 2016 Apple AirPods?

These models have been discontinued and phased out at most stores now. On the rare occasions that we do spot unused stock units, they’re actually the same price as the new and improved 2019 versions.

Short version: get the 2019 models instead via one of the deals in the comparison chart above. To be sure they are the new ones, look out for H1 chip and hands-free Siri functionality in the description if the title doesn’t say something along the lines of ‘2019’ or ‘latest/newest version’.

Should I wait for a cheaper AirPods deal?

You might be waiting a while for seriously big discounts. Last year around Black Friday, we were seeing $20 discounts selling out in minutes, and it was one of the most popular deals we highlighted in our extensive roundups of the hottest offers. We saw similar discounts in the UK too – much better than last year’s $7 discount but still no flash sales around right now.

Things have actually been better overall this year though with much better deals available in various regions. We’re regularly seeing discounts of $15/£20 outside of peak seasonal discounts, so you should be able to beat the recommended asking price to be honest.

Amazon has the best iPad deals right now. From the entry-level 11-inch iPad to the powerful M4-based iPad Pro, the retailer is offering iPad deals across the board and now is the perfect time to upgrade.

Additionally, many of today’s prices are about $50-$100 cheaper than last week’s iPad deals. As a result, I’m recommending you snatch up any deals you see right now. How I find the best iPad deals

I’ve been tracking iPad deals for over a decade. I’ve purchased multiple iPads as gifts and I’ve also owned various iPads since the launch of the original iPad tablet. (I currently own the iPad mini 5th gen). Through the year, I’ve learned to spot a good iPad deal from an ordinary sale. I also know where and when you’ll find best iPad deals.

Generally speaking, Amazon and Best Buy are my go-to retailers for iPad deals. No other retailer comes close to offering the prices you’ll find at Amazon and Best Buy. Amazon is usually the better retailer as Best Buy doesn’t always have iPads on sale. However, the retailers tend to price match each other. So if you see one iPad on sale at Best Buy, chances are high Amazon is also offering that price (or will in the very near future).

One of my favorite ways to save money on your next iPad purchase is to trade-in your old model. You can usually get $50+ for your old iPad from the likes of the Apple Store or Best Buy. You can then use that credit to buy any new iPad of your choice.

Note: iPad deals on new models can usually be found within a week of the tablet’s release, sometimes faster. If you can afford to wait a few days, you can save from $20 to $50 off. (Amazon is usually the first retailer to discount newly announced iPads).

Which iPad should I buy?

Not sure why iPad is right for you? Currently, these are the models that Apple offers:

11-inch iPad ($349): The current-gen, entry-level iPad debuted in 2025. It features an 11-inch display and Apple’s A16 CPU. You get a 12MP rear camera and a 12MP front camera with support for Center Stage. It has USB-C connectivity and can power one external display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz.

8.3-inch iPad mini ($499): True to its name, the 2021 iPad mini 6 is the smallest tablet in Apple’s lineup. But don’t let its size fool you — the iPad mini is one powerful tablet. The 2021 iPad mini features an all new thin-bezel design, a larger 8.3.inch Liquid Retina display, A15 Bionic CPU, 12MP wide camera, and USB-C connectivity. It also works with the Apple Pencil 2.

Because the display is large enough to accommodate a full comic book page, you’ll rarely (if ever) have to zoom in or rotate the tablet to see things more clearly. Guide to finding the best iPad deals

Where to find the best deals: Generally speaking, Amazon tends to offer the best iPad deals. On any given day of the week you’ll typically find discounts that run the gamut from $50 to $200 off. Other retailers like Best Buy, B&H Photo, and Walmart tend to offer similar prices. However, it’s rare that they undercut Amazon’s iPad deals.

Check all colors: Amazon tends to give different color iPads different prices. For instance, the base iPad 32GB tablet in black might sell for a discounted $299 price, but the white model might sell at full price. So when looking for iPad deals at Amazon, it’s worth checking various colors for the lowest price.

Check older iPad models: Apple’s newest iPads pack the most power. However, oftentimes previous-gen iPads still pack enough muscle for your everyday needs. They can also be purchased for a lot less than any current-gen iPad. So it’s always worth checking older iPad models (when available) to save some extra cash.

WWDC 2025 is just hours away .There’s a lot of excitement for those in the developer community who create apps and software for Apple’s entire product line — like its iPhones, Macs, and everything in between. The annual developers conference get-together usually has enough announcements and previews to interest people who’ve never written a line of code.

This year’s event kicks off on June 9 and runs through June 13, where we could be getting a completely fresh coat of paint for much of Apple’s software, with the company looking to make using its phones, tablets and computers with a more unified experience.

Remember Apple Intelligence? That was the big star of last year’s WWDC, and we’re hoping to see a stronger comeback for 2025, as Apple looks to regain some momentum for its suite of AI tools after a rocky start — though some reports say Apple could be giving AI the year off. New hardware could appear, too, though that’s a remote possibility this time around.

It all begins with the main event June 9 keynote, which will set the stage for the software Apple plans to roll out later on this year. That’s where Apple will lay out its software roadmap for the rest of the year. Mark your calendars: it starts at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT / 6 p.m. BST, and yes, you’ll be able to catch the WWDC 2025 live stream on YouTube. I know a lot of you will be glued to that screen.

WWDC usually means previews of upcoming software releases, and this year should be no exception. However, instead of focusing on new features, Apple seems likely to make the interface the big news this time around. And not just the interface of one operating system — all of Apple’s software is reportedly due for an overhaul.

That reporting comes from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who wrote back in March that Apple was planning to unify the look of its iPhone, iPad and Mac operating systems. The new look is set to come from visionOS, the software that powers the Apple Vision Pro headset, which should mean rounded icons and translucent menus. Apps, windows and system buttons are also set for the new look, which is code-named Solarium based on Gurman’s reporting.

While iOS, iPadOS and macOS were the initial platforms set to get an interface revamp, it appears now that all of Apple’s software will be ringing in the changes at WWDC 2025. Gurman now reports that watchOS and tvOS are due for an overhaul, too.

It’s hard to overstate what a big deal the Solarium update figures to be, particularly for the iPhone and iOS. Apple’s iPhone software has seen changes over the years, but the last significant redesign took place a dozen years ago when iOS 7 marked an end to skeumorphism.

That’s when design elements take on the aspect of the real-world object that inspired them, like the yellow-lined paper that used to be a part of the Notes app on your iPhone. It could be argued that a new look for the iPhone software is way overdue.

That said, redesigns rarely meet with universal acclaim right away, as people can find new interfaces jarring (as I explore here). I’m very interested to see not only the new look Apple is set to show off at WWDC, but how people react to it.

iOS 26: New names for software

You may have noticed I didn’t include version numbers when talking about the new editions of iOS and other Apple software updates. That’s because Apple may be changing those names, according to another Gurman report.

Currently, Apple software uses version numbers to distinguish one release from another. Your iPhone is running iOS 18, your Mac runs macOS 15, and your Apple Watch is currently on watchOS 11.

But the new Gurman report suggests that Apple will switch over to years starting at WWDC, picking the upcoming year as the version number. So instead of iOS 19, we’ll be getting a preview of iOS 26, along with macOS 26, watchOS 26 and so on.

The motivation behind the name changes is the same one apparently driving the interface overhaul — Apple wants consistently across its different platforms. Now, instead of having to remember that this year’s iPhone software is the 19th version Apple’s released while the new Apple Watch software is only up to a 12th version, you need only cite the year following the release date.

I’m a phones guy at heart, so I’ve got a special interest in what’s cooking for iOS 19… er… iOS 26. And while the interface redesign figures to take up much of the focus with this new version of the iPhone software, there are hints of new features coming to Apple’s phones that I’m interested to see in action.

One report suggests the iOS 26 update is getting a feature that simplifies signing on to Wi-Fi networks by sharing login details across different Apple devices. Apple is also said to be adding an AI-powered feature for improving battery life and predicting charging times. Both would be welcome improvements, if minor ones.

The iPhone might also gain a new desktop mode, which would let you plug a model with a USB-C port — so, an iPhone 15 or later — into an external display to give you extra screen real estate. Similarly, iPadOS 26 — which is essentially iOS with a few more iPad-specific features, has been tipped to get a Mac-like menu bar at the top of its screen and updated Stage Manager feature for better multitasking.

A new Apple gaming app

We could be in for a new app at WWDC 2025 that will work on multiple platforms — and it’s all to do with gaming. According to yet another Bloomberg report, the new gaming app will house many of the features currently found in Game Center like leaderboards and friends, while also letting you launch games from within the app itself and elevating the Apple Arcade gaming service.

Details are pretty thin at the moment, but it sounds as if this isn’t just an iPhone app — there are likely to be versions of the gaming offering for iPads, Macs and Apple TV as well.

So far we haven’t said much about Apple Intelligence, which seems odd given how much Apple has focused on bringing AI features to its various products. But don’t mistake that for Apple slowing down those efforts.

Apple is still going to be pushing AI, even if the focus this year may be fine-tuning what’s already there instead of introducing a lot of new capabilities.

For example, there are still features Apple promised at last year’s WWDC that the company needs to deliver on. That would be the redesign of Siri, the personal assistant found on iPhones, iPads and Macs.

While there have been some changes as part of the Apple Intelligence launch — there’s a new animation when you summon the assistant, you can type questions and queries and Siri’s gotten better with follow-up questions and interruptions — the biggest improvements are still MIA.

Based on what Apple told us last year, Siri is supposed to be able to see the contents of your screen and take action based on those contents — creating an entry in your calendar when you get an email about an appointment for example. And it’s supposed to be more contextually aware, enabling the assistant to provide more personalized and proactive suggestions.

A few months ago, Apple admitted it was having trouble getting these features to work consistently, though. Instead, they’ll be part of the new software coming out later this year, though the timeline for when those specific Siri features will be ready is still up in the air.

As for new features, there are rumors of some additions to the Apple Intelligence toolkit. I’ve already mentioned AI-fueled battery management, and Apple is reportedly developing an AI-based health coaching tool that can collect all the fitness and health data stored on your Apple devices to formulate advice on improving your health.

Since WWDC 2025 is a developer conference, expect some developer-related AI news, too. Specifically, Apple will reportedly offer a developer tool that will make it easier to incorporate Apple Intelligence features into apps.

Hardware surprises

It’s not unheard of for Apple to include hardware announcements during WWDC. For example, two years ago, Apple previewed the Vision Pro while also introducing new Macs.

Any hardware that shows up at WWDC 2025 will likely be aimed at the developers in attendance at the show. For that reason, if there is a new Mac, it would likely be a Mac Pro, possibly equipped with an M4 chip. Alongside a desktop reveal, Apple is tipped to reveal its next macOS software, reportedly called ‘Tahoe,’ at WWDC 2025 as well.

If Apple’s software revelations at WWDC 2025 enable new hardware features, it’s possible the company could show off the relevant devices. For example, there’s been talk for a while about a touch-screen equipped version of Apple’s HomePod arriving at some point in 2025, though Apple would likely need to work through its Siri issues if it’s going to show off that device.

Similarly, we’ve heard rumors about AirPods with integrated cameras to support gesture-controls, though that’s unlikely to appear before 2026.

If you want a real longshot for a WWDC 2025 appearance, multiple reports claim that Apple is working on a pair of smart glasses as a Vision Pro follow-up. That device is also tipped to arrive in 2026. But as Apple showed two years ago with its spatial computing headset, new hardware that requires new software sometimes gets trotted out at WWDC to whet the appetites of developers — and the rest of us onlookers.

Don’t expect AirTags 2 to make an appearance, though. Rumor has it that they’re almost ready for launch, but aren’t considered high-profile enough to warrant an appearance at the notoriously software-focussed WWDC.

AirPods upgrades

Even though it’s unlikely there will be new AirPods introduced at WWDC 2025, Apple could be making existing ones much better based on the leaks. Through iOS 26 and macOS 26, there could be five big upgrades coming to the AirPods.

The first being new head gestures that could be extended to dismissing notifications, which would complement the existing one that Apple introduced last year that lets wearers accept or decline calls.

For those that use AirPods to listen to music or podcasts while falling asleep, a new feature could bring an auto-pause function that could trigger when you finally doze off.

Taking photos could be a squeeze away, too, as the rumors hint at the ability to capture a photo by squeezing on the stem of the AirPods.

The Audio Mix feature in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could be making its way to the AirPods as well, brining studio quality microphone enhancements, giving creators the option to use AirPods for audio recording with video.

And finally, the reports hint at a better pairing process for AirPods when they’re paired with an iPad. Specifically targeted for education, this would allow multiple students to share a device.

The AirPods Pro 2 have now been out for a fairly long time. They were first introduced in 2022, replacing the original AirPods Pro, and the USB-C version debuted in 2023.

Now we’re awaiting the AirPods Pro 3, and thanks to some rumors and leas we have some idea of what of what Apple has in store for its next pair of best wireless earbuds.

It’s looking like we might see the new AirPods Pro arrive sometime in 2025 — and it could come with some new health features and other upgrades.

In order to fit with the previous release calendars of the AirPods Pro, we would have already seen the AirPods Pro 3 by now. The Apple Glowtime event in September unveiled the AirPods 4 (with and without ANC).

This year, there are a couple of different points that we might see new AirPods. There’s WWDC 2025, which is going to happen in June, and, failing that, there’s the iPhone 17 event that should happen in September.

As for when various insiders think we’re going to see the AirPods Pro 3, there are a couple of answers. The leaker Kosutami posted on X that they’d be launching alongside a new AirTag in either May or June. That would fit in perfectly with the WWDC date we’ve now been given.

Bloomberg Apple reporter Mark Gurman has been a little more vague. He reckons we’ll see the AirPods Pro 3 at some point this year, although it’s likely to be a little bit later. The most he has said is that they are “many months away” in February.

AirPods Pro 3 price speculation

As with most of the AirPods Pro models, we think there’s going to be little movement on price — although there’s not much out there as evidence. Instead, we have to go with the pricing of previous AirPods Pros, which has stayed fairly consistent over the product life cycles.

The AirPods Pro launched at $250, and then the AirPods Pro 2 cost the same. They are the most expensive in-ears that Apple produces, more than both the AirPods 4 models.

Since the AirPods Pro 2 have launched, the competition has raised the price of their ANC buds. The Sony WF-1000XM5 launched at $299, as did the Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds. There’s a chance Apple might bring the price of the AirPods Pro 3 up to match — although that would cost it a competitive advantage.

At the moment, then, there’s nothing concrete — although I’m fairly confident that the price isn’t going to move all that much.

Recently, the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 launched with heart rate monitors inside to make them better for runners and other athletes.

There’s been significant evidence that the AirPods Pro 3 are going to get the same feature, although we hope it performs better than in the PowerBeats Pro 2.

There could also be new ways to interact with the AirPods Pro 3 case. An Apple patent points to the possibility of a touchscreen on the case of the AirPods, which would let you control music playback and other features like ANC.

Apple wouldn’t be the first — there are screens on some of Soundcore’s earbud cases, as well as the JBL Tour Pro 3 buds.

Personally, I don’t see much use in a touchscreen on my buds case. Why bother taking the case out of my pocket to play with the settings, when I could just take out my phone?

Beyond the touchscreen, Gurman thinks there’s evidence that the AirPods Pro 3 are going to offer temperature sensors to measure different health metrics alongside the potential heart rate monitor.

Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo has reported that the AirPods Pro could offer infrared cameras, which could be used for gesture control and other functions.

Gurman has also reported that Apple is working on AirPods with cameras. And they might offer a way to control Apple’s rumored smart glasses. But it’s not likely that he’s talking about the AirPods 3.

One rumor also suggests that the controls on the AirPods Pro 3 might change. Instead of capacitive controls, they might be operable when you’re wearing gloves. They might be moving to more conventional swipes and taps, as opposed to the squeezing needed on the older models.

There’s not that much in the way of rumors about improved AirPods Pro 3 features, beyond those fancy sounding new touch controls. There are a couple of different things I think we might see though, and they’re mostly down to the potential H3 chip that could power Apple’s latest buds.

With every release of the AirPods Pro, Apple has packed a new chip inside. The AirPods had the H1 chip, the AirPods Pro 2 had the H2 chip, and it’s expected that the AirPods Pro 3 will get a brand new H3 chip. That could come with a number of different benefits.

One of the biggest is improved ANC. Sony and Bose have both launched competitors with superior noise-blocking capabilities among the best noise-canceling earbuds. I think Apple is going to step up its game with the next pair, in order to fight back against the new(er) kids on the block.

Battery life is something that the H3 chip will likely improve, with greater power efficiency. That’s an area where the AirPods definitely need improvement — their 6-hour bud battery simply isn’t enough when compared to the competition.

Sound quality could see a big improvement as well, and I’m hoping we see the wireless lossless playback communication between the buds and the Apple Vision Pro headset come to a wider range of devices.

I don’t think the AirPods Pro 3 are going to change the Apple, neutral-sound profile, but there might be ways to make them sound better.

What I would like to see

There’s one thing I care about with the buds that I put in my pockets, and by extension, my ears — and that’s the way that they sound. I’d like to see the AirPods Pro 3 improve the sound quality, with more dynamism and great range.

Battery life is another big one for me — the battery life of the buds is just about enough for long car journeys, but not for cross-country flights or international flight. I’d like to see at least 8 hours out of the buds, and 30 hours out of the case. That would make them better than both the Sony and the Bose alternatives.

I’d also really like to see the connectivity between non-Apple devices improve. I recently moved over to Android, and getting my AirPods to work perfectly with them has been irritating to say the least. Some form of improved support would be very welcome.
