The city has committed $100,000 to offset the cost of program fees, training and certifications for coaches, mental health services and safety and equipment. To be eligible, an interested organization must be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that directly serves Akron youth. Applications for the grants must be submitted by Saturday, May 31, at 11:59 p.m., and can be emailed to Youth Opportunity Strategist Denico Buckley-Knight at dbuckley-knight@akronohio.gov.

Akron City Council approves $798.6 million budget for 2025. $1 million to replace cardiac monitors in EMS vehicles. $125,000 to pilot an expanded pre-K and child care initiative. $45,000 for a part-time data analyst position for the Citizen’s Police Oversight Board. The budget includes several amendments totaling $245,000 in funding for after-school programming.. The Akron After School Program, a program that provides math and reading support to children, received an additional $50,000 Monday afternoon during the Planning and Economic Development Committee meeting. The city will receive $250,000. for the Youth Success Summit to provide out-of-school time opportunities for Akron”s youth. The program also gives youth a chance to explore new interests, and serves more than 2,500 students weekly.
