Amazon (AMZN) Makes Color Kindle More Affordable with New Model and Kids Edition
Amazon (AMZN) is making its color-screen Kindle lineup more budget-friendly by introducing a lower-cost version of its Kindle Colorsoft. The new model, which is priced at $249.99, comes with 16GB of storage instead of the 32GB offered in the original $279.99 model. The original 7-inch Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition was known for its vibrant display and features that were designed specifically for reading comics, graphic novels, and other colorful content. It offered adjustable warm light, a glare-free screen, and up to eight weeks of battery life, along with features like page inversion for dark mode reading. The new 16GB version keeps many of these benefits, such as the high-contrast display and fast page turns, and even comes with three months of Kindle Unlimited.
However, the lower-cost model removes certain premium features found in the Signature Edition, such as wireless charging, automatic brightness adjustment, and the larger storage capacity. Meanwhile, the Kindle Colorsoft Kids edition includes an illustrated cover, a two-year warranty, and a year of Amazon Kids+, which provides access to books, games, and educational tools like a vocabulary builder and the OpenDyslexic font. It also supports Bluetooth for listening to audiobooks, thereby making it a versatile option for young readers.
