The Arkansas Department of Transportation said Friday that motorists traveling on Arkansas interstates and highways should prepare for a larger presence of military vehicle traffic through the end of June, resulting in minor slowdowns.

The larger presence on roadways is because the National Guard is making its way to and from annual training.

The Arkansas National Guard said troops will travel from their respective armories to train at Fort Chaffee Joint Maneuver Training Center in Barling in west Arkansas, and then return to their respective armories once training is complete. The convoys consist of large, tactical vehicles that will travel at a slower speed than normal traffic.

The Transportation Department and National Guard said this will result in slowdowns, particularly at the rear of the convoy, where vehicles attempting to pass could cause temporary congestion.
