Cracker Barrel 400 expert picks and predictions

Odds listed below courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook as of 5-31.

Cracker Barrel 400 pre-qualifying favorites

Denny Hamlin (+550)

Denny Hamlin keeps improving at Nashville; 21st, to sixth, to third.

While he was 12th last year, Hamlin started on pole, finished second and fourth in the pair of stages, and led 70 laps. I say that’s an improvement despite the finish going backward.

Hamlin has led 265 laps in his last three Nashville starts, including leading 114 laps and finishing second in both stages three years ago. In 2023, he led 81 laps with stage finishes of fifth and first, respectively.

At Bristol, another concrete track, Hamlin was second. For Darlington and Homestead, a pair of aged surfaces, Hamlin finished fifth and first, respectively.

William Byron (+650)

William Byron finished third in 2021 and sixth in 2023. The every-other-year good finishes allow me to overlook the 19th-place finish last year.

He finished sixth in Bristol, 12th in Homestead, and runner-up at Darlington.

Cracker Barrel 400 sleepers

Ross Chastain (+1100)

Ross Chastain finished runner-up in 2021, fifth in 2022, and won in 2023 from the pole. While he finished 33rd last year, he led 45 laps prior. He was seventh at Bristol and Darlington earlier this year. Chastain enters off a Coca-Cola 600 victory.

Joey Logano (+2200)

Can he go back-to-back? Joey Logano has led just 13 laps but has three Top-10 finishes in four starts. He was 14th and 13th at Homestead and Darlington, respectively.

Ty Gibbs (+2800)

He finished 14th as a rookie in 2023 and 23rd last year. Ty Gibbs was ninth and third at Darlington and Bristol, respectively.

Cracker Barrel 400 fades

Christopher Bell (+600)

Christopher Bell has three Top-10 finishes in four Nashville tries, and the one he didn’t, he led six-times for 131 laps last year after sweeping both stages. A crash left him 36th. So why the fade?

Despite all that, he has no Top-5 finishes.

Ryan Blaney (+850)

Two of his four Nashville finishes are 36th or worse. Ryan Blaney finished sixth last year. He was fifth at both Bristol and Darlington but 36th at Homestead, and he finished 38th last week in Charlotte.

Tyler Reddick (+1000)

He’s finished 18th, 18th, 30th prior to his third-place finish last year. Tyler Reddick started sixth and finished third and second in the pair of stages for his best Nashville outing. He was 18th at Bristol, eighth at Homestead, and fourth in Darlington.

The other problem is Reddick has no Top-10 finishes in the last five weeks.

Chase Elliott (+1400)

He led 13 laps and finished 39th in 2021. Chase Elliott then led 42 laps and won a year later. In 2023, he led one lap and finished fourth, while last year he didn’t lead any laps and finished 18th.

He finished 15th in Bristol and 18th and eighth, respectively, at Homestead and Darlington. He hasn’t finished better than fourth all season, too.

Cracker Barrel 400 prop pick: Kyle Larson Top-3 finish

Kyle Larson led all but 36 laps in his 2021 win and backed that up with being fourth in 2022, fifth in 2023, and eighth last year.

He hasn’t led a single lap here since that 2021 dominance, but his 4.5 average finish is best among drivers to race all four years. He also won at both Homestead and Bristol this season and has six Top-5 finishes in his last eight starts this season.

Pick: Kyle Larson Top-3 finish (+130 at bet365)

Nashville Superspeedway track analysis

Nashville Superspeedway is the largest concrete-only track in NASCAR, and the 1.33-mile speedway is owned by Dover Motorsports, Inc., which also owns Dover International Speedway in Delaware. That’s why Dover and Darlington are solid comparison tracks; the last two years have proven that results translate well between them.

Hendrick Motorsports won the first two races here, while Trackhouse Racing and Team Penske have won the last two races.

Cracker Barrel 400 trends

Expect the winner to dominate. Outside of Joey Logano’s massive fuel saving measures to where he led only the final nine laps in overtime last year, Ross Chastain led 99 laps in 2023 and was second and third in both stages, Kyle Larson led 264 laps and was second and first in both stages in 2021, Chase Elliott in 2022 led 42 laps and was eighth and fourth in the pair of stages.

The eventual race winner ran in the Top 4 in five of the last eight stages here.

NASCAR Xfinity Series at Nashville Superspeedway Preview

The NASCAR Xfinity Series is racing in Nashville, Tennessee, for the Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville Superspeedway. It is the 26th race at the 1.333-mile concrete oval track. The race will have some notable additions to the field for Saturday’s race: Ross Chastain, Corey Day and Myatt Snider. Justin Allgaier is the points leader for the series, and after a pit-gamble gone wrong last week at Charlotte, I think he wants to get another win and extend that points lead. If you want to bet on a winner, bet on him driving a Chevrolet. Look for Aric Almirola to lead the charge on Saturday. Look out for Sam Mayer to be able to get that breakout speed for a win for a second time this season. If anyone has the speed to upset Chevy’s dominance, it has to be the Ford driver who has not been able to win all season. The 25th race of the 2025 season is a 250-mile, 188-lap race. There is a total prize purse of 1,651,939 dollars.

NASCAR Xfinity Series at Nashville Superspeedway Preview

It’s time to go racing in Music City, Nashville, Tennessee. The Tennessee Lottery 250 is the 14th race of the 2025 season. Last time the Xfinity Series raced at Nashville, it was John Hunter Nemechek and the Joe Gibbs Racing #20 team taking home the victory. Can Joe Gibbs Racing dominate like they did last year? Or will Chevy continue their absolute dominance this season?

Race Preview:

The 2025 Tennessee Lottery 250 is a 250-mile, 188-lap race around the 1.333-mile Nashville Superspeedway. It is the 26th Xfinity Series race at the track. Stage cautions will be displayed on laps 45 and 90, with the checkered flag flying on lap 188. There is a total prize purse of 1,651,939 dollars available to participants of this race. Teams will have five sets of tires for qualifying and the race.

The Track-Nashville Superspeedway:

Nashville Superspeedway, located in Lebanon, Tennessee, opened in 2001 as a 1.33-mile concrete oval track. Initially hosting races for the NASCAR Xfinity and Truck Series, it became notable for its concrete surface. After closing in 2011 due to declining attendance, the track reopened in 2021 under Speedway Motorsports ownership, hosting its first NASCAR Cup Series race. Since 2021, it has hosted all three major NASCAR Series.

The Xfinity Series has raced at Nashville 25 times in the past. Greg Biffle won the inaugural race back in 2001. Carl Edwards holds the record for wins at the speedway, five wins in 13 starts. AJ Allmendinger holds the track lap record, a 31.214-second lap, set in the 2022 running of the Tennessee Lottery 250.

Xfinity Series Points Standings:

These are the current point standings for the Xfinity Series following last week’s race at Charlotte:

1. Justin Allgaier: 522

2. Austin Hill: 450

3. Sam Mayer: 429

4. Jesse Love: 403

5. Brandon Jones: 352

6. Connor Zilisch *: 351

7. Ryan Sieg: 349

8. Carson Kvapil *: 345

9. Jeb Burton: 343

10. Sheldon Creed: 333

Drivers Joining The Xfinity Series Field:

The race will have some notable additions to the field for Saturday’s race. Ross Chastain will drive the #9 for JR Motorsports. Corey Day will drive the #17 Camaro for Hendrick Motorsports. Aric Almirola will pilot the #19 for Joe Gibbs Racing. Katherine Legge continues her run in the #32 for Jordan Anderson Racing. Myatt Snider will make his third start of the year, driving the #91 for DGM Racing.

Who Will Win in Nashville?

It has been clear that the Xfinity Series is Chevrolet’s playground in 2025. Out of the 14 races run this season, 12 have been one by Chevrolet. 8 of those wins have been won by full-time Xfinity drivers. Those other six have been won by Cup Series racers. If you want to bet on a winner, bet on him driving a Chevrolet.

Justin Allgaier is the only winner racing in the field this Saturday. He is the points leader for the series, and after a pit-gamble gone wrong last week at Charlotte, I think he wants to get another win and extend that points lead.

Joe Gibbs Racing has the other two wins in the series in 2025. Aric Almirola has one, and Brandon Jones the other. They dominated this race in 2024, winning the pole, both stages, and the race. If anyone has the speed to upset Chevy’s dominance, it has to be JGR. Look for Almirola to lead the Toyota charge on Saturday.

Sam Mayer has put the blue ovals on his back this season. He is third in the points and has almost 100 more points than his teammate, Sheldon Creed. He has had top-five, top ten speed all season long, but has not been able to get that breakout speed for a win. Look out for Sam Mayer to again lead the Ford camp at Nashville.

NASHVILLE, TN. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — It’s called a superspeedway, but at only 1.3 miles, don’t expect major drafting on these cars like in Daytona or Talladega.

The concrete in Nashville will challenge drivers to find speed because the grooves won’t be in places they’re used to.

If you think grip was an issue in Charlotte, just wait for race day. Turns will be slick and fast, and exiting out of those turns will bottleneck a bit. If we’re in for a close race, there won’t be any room for error.

Track trends

🏁 Four different drivers have won this race each of the last four years. For Xfinity, Justin Allgaier is the only past winner in the field.

🏁 Nashville Superspeedway is the longest concrete oval on the circuit.

🏁 Kyle Larson is the only driver to finish top 10 in all four races at Nashville.

🏁 Nashville’s night race could favor William Byron. He’s won four times under the lights- the most in the next-gen era.

🏁 Overtime is very much a possibility for this race. Last year, we went 31 laps past the scheduled distance. So far, there have been three overtime races- Daytona, Atlanta, and Darlington.

He was in position for a top 10 finish at the 1.33-mile concrete track last year when a car got turned around directly in front of the No. 3 Chevrolet on a restart in Stage 3 and Dillon had nowhere to go, ending the team’s race early. Dillon also has experience at the track in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Truck Series. He made two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts for Kevin Harvick, Inc. at the track in 2011, earning a pair of top 10 finishes (seventh in April and third in July). AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

What are your thoughts on Nashville Superspeedway?

“Nashville is a very awesome town. The racetrack is concrete, which makes it unique from some of the other tracks we race at. It’s become a good race on our schedule. I’ve won a truck race there, so I’m looking forward to trying to win another guitar. The track surface is one of those surfaces that really chews up a little bit of tire, so you definitely have to do a very good job at putting heat in the car.”

The No. 3 team seems to be figuring things out lately. What has changed over the past several weeks? And what do you still need to improve on?

“We’re starting to click as a team. We do a good job adjusting on our Chevy during the race, but if we can hit the setup earlier in the weekend, we can have better track position, which will help a lot during the race. We had a top 10 streak going and I really thought we were going to have another top 10 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but we unexpectedly ran out of fuel at the end of the race. Our finish doesn’t reflect how well we ran. Nashville is another track that has been good to us in the past, and I think with the way this team is performing right now we should be able to continue our positive momentum.”

What has Kyle Busch been like as a teammate? Specifically, this year as RCR continues to restructure things and move forward. What has he brought to the organization?

“I feel like Kyle Busch gives you what you expect, which is that he’s a hard worker. He’s fiery. He wants the best for the cars. He wants to get to victory lane constantly and will push everyone to figure out how to make that happen, even himself on the track. But as far as being in the meetings with him after practice and on Mondays in our team debriefs, he’s very helpful. He asks good questions at the right time about what your car is doing, and he provides information that you can make your car better off of. From that standpoint, you couldn’t ask for a more helpful teammate when it comes to his knowledge of the game and what he is providing from an informational standpoint.”

Kyle Busch and the No. 8 zone Chevrolet at Nashville Superspeedway… Sunday’s 400-mile race at Nashville Superspeedway will mark Kyle Busch’s fifth career NASCAR Cup Series start at the 1.33 mile racetrack. His best finish of ninth came driving the No. 8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing in 2023. Additionally at Nashville, the 40-year-old driver has led 76 laps, and has completed 99 percent (1,219 of 1,231) of the laps he’s contested there.

A Winning Tradition… Busch has found Victory Lane five times at Nashville Superspeedway. He claimed his first victory at the track in the ARCA Menards Series in 2003. He has two NASCAR Xfinity Series wins at the track, including a race in 2009 and his milestone 100th victory in NASCAR’s second-tier series in 2021. Busch owns two NASCAR Truck Series wins in two career starts at the track, earning dominant wins from the pole position in 2010 and 2011. Each of Busch’s five Nashville Superspeedway wins were earned from the pole position.

Get to the Points… Busch enters Nashville 18th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. He is 14 points below the playoff cutline with 13 races remaining in the regular season.

Double Duty… In addition to his driving duties in Sunday’s Cup Series race, Busch will pilot the No. 07 Chevrolet Silverado for Spire Motorsports in Friday’s Truck Series race.

KYLE BUSCH QUOTE:

How do you think the racing has evolved at Nashville Superspeedway since we started going in 2021? “I think the racing in Nashville has been really good. I remember years ago, a long time back in the Xfinity days, it was a one-groove racetrack around the bottom. It wasn’t conducive to a whole lot of side-by-side racing and whatnot. But the last few years it’s really been good there. The track really widens out. There are guys that are running all the way up at the top groove. It’s been a good show. So hopefully the fans enjoy it.”

Jesse Love and the No. 2 Titan Risk Solutions Chevrolet at Nashville Superspeedway… Jesse Love has made one career NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Nashville Superspeedway. Piloting the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet one year ago, Love started from the rear after sustaining a problem prior to qualifying, drove through the field twice, and brought home a strong third-place effort.

Halfway in the Regular Season… At the halfway mark of the Xfinity Series regular season, Love’s sophomore success continues to shine in the opening 13 events. Under Danny Stockman’s guidance for the second consecutive season, Love and the No. 2 team have claimed one win, two poles, three top-five, and eight top-10 finishes. Love has also led a total of 156 laps, ranked fourth in the series of full-time competitors.

Did You Know? This season, Love has recorded an average starting position of 8.5 and an average finishing position of 11.8 – both improvements from his rookie campaign.

Points Check… With 13 races complete, Love remains in the fourth position in the Xfinity Series driver championship point standings – 26 points behind third-place Sam Mayer. Love is currently tied for fourth for the most Playoff points earned, with six total to his credit.

Welcome Back, Titan Risk Solutions… Continuing their multi-year, multi-car partnership in 2025, Titan Risk Solutions will make their primary partner season debut at Nashville Superspeedway. JESSE LOVE QUOTE:

What is the biggest challenge with racing at Nashville Superspeedway?

“I love racing at Nashville Superspeedway. Concrete tracks are my favorite surface to race on, next to dirt. I love places where you can search around for grip. With how I came up through the dirt world, we were always searching around, and if you weren’t searching around, you were probably going to end up being passed quickly. Being able to find clean, cold racetrack that is out of the rubber is key there. Honestly, it rewards the guys who do the opposite of what the field does. Our No. 2 team ran well there last year, so I’m looking forward to having another shot at it. It could be another great opportunity for our group.”

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet at Nashville Superspeedway… Austin Hill has made four career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Nashville Superspeedway, all since NASCAR’s return to the Lebanon, Tennessee track in 2021. The Winston, Georgia native has qualified inside the top-10 three times and earned two top-five and four top-10 results. In addition, Hill has participated in one NASCAR Truck Series race, posting a ninth-place finish.

Top-10 Streaking in Music City… Hill is the only active driver to finish inside the top-10 in the last four Xfinity Series races at the 1.333-mile concrete oval (ninth in 2021, eighth in 2022, fourth in 2023, fourth in 2024).

Did You Know? Hill has led a total of 288 laps in Xfinity Series competition this season – second-best in the series of full-time competitors and over 100 laps more than third.

First Half of Regular Season… As the Xfinity Series reached the halfway mark of the regular season at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Hill and the No. 21 team have posted impressive marks in the first 13 events. Under Chad Haney’s leadership, the team has captured three victories, one pole, seven top-five and nine top-10 finishes. Hill has led a total of 287 laps, surpassing his entire total during the 2024 campaign.

Holding Steady in Second… Through 13 races, Hill continues to hold second-place in the Xfinity Series driver championship point standings – 72 points behind leader Justin Allgaier. Hill has secured a series-leading 21 Playoff points.

Meet Hill… On Saturday, May 31 at 3:45 p.m. Local Time, Hill is scheduled to participate in a question-and-answer session at the Fan Zone Stage at Nashville Superspeedway. Stop by to hear from the 31-year-old before the green flag waves.

AUSTIN HILL QUOTE:

Does a concrete surface race different than the traditional asphalt surface?

“The biggest difference is how the rubber lays down. Once the rubber lays down over a run, the surface starts to turn darker and somewhat looks like asphalt. When a caution comes out, we pick up all the pieces so it’s important to clean your tires before the restart. No matter if you are on old or new tires, but especially when you are on old tires, it feels like you are on a brand-new track until the rubber gets laid down again. As we get later into the race, we will pick the rubber back up under caution, but it seems to lay back down quicker. Staying ahead of the rubber buildup and anticipating the changes in the track will be keys during the race.”

2025 Cracker Barrel 400 Preview: NASCAR Heads to Nashville

The 2025 Cracker Barrel 400 takes place at Nashville Superspeedway on Sunday. Ross Chastain won the Coca-Cola 600 last time out. Corey Heim makes his Cup Series debut in the #67 for 23XI Racing. Hendrick Motorsports has won three of the four Cup Series races at the track since it began racing in 2021. William Byron is my official race winner pick for the race in 2025. The race will feature the most overtimes of all time in the history of the track. The track features an entirely concrete racing surface, whereas most tracks feature asphalt. The concrete surface changes less with the weather, making for more consistent handling. The racing likely plays out similar to other intermediate-style circuits, with aeroblocking on display.

Last time out, Ross Chastain punched his playoff ticket with a massive win in the Coca-Cola 600. Chastain will look to build off that momentum as NASCAR hits the concrete at Nashville Superspeedway for the 2025 Cracker Barrel 400.

Can Ross notch a second straight victory, or will another driver claim the checkered flag as the Cup Series visits Music City in 2025? Let’s dive in.

For the second time this season, Corey Heim makes a start in the Cup Series. Heim once again pilots the #67 for 23XI Racing. Joining Heim as open entries this weekend are JJ Yeley in the #44 and Chad Finchum in the #66.

The chartered entries remain unchanged for this weekend’s race at Nashville Superspeedway.

The circuit represents a unique challenge for NASCAR teams. Unlike most intermediate tracks, Nashville features an entirely concrete racing surface, whereas most tracks feature asphalt. The concrete surface means Nashville Superspeedway changes less with the weather, making for more consistent handling. Concrete also tends to create more tire wear, though that doesn’t ring as true for the NASCAR NextGen car.

The racing on Sunday likely plays out similar to other intermediate-style circuits, with aeroblocking on display as drivers look to find different grooves to complete passes.

2025 Cracker Barrel 400 Race Predictions

I expect the usual cast of characters to run up front at Nashville Superspeedway come Sunday.

Chevrolet holds three of the four wins at Nashville Superspeedway since the Cup Series first started racing here back in 2021. Hendrick Motorsports won with Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott in ’21 and ’22, and the aforementioned Ross Chastain won in 2023.

Last year, Joey Logano won in a race that featured the most overtimes of all time. I expect the race to be a bit calmer this time around.

For my official race winner pick, I expect Hendrick Motorsports to get back to victory lane at Nashville. William Byron is my race winner pick for the 2025 Cracker Barrel 400.
