Arrest made after break-in at midtown business
Anchorage police received a report of a burglary in progress at 700 West Fireweed Avenue around 11:54 p.m. Monday. 42-year-old Elijah Todd was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and resisting or interfering with arrest. Todd admitted he was not supposed to be there and had stayed in the building for about three days. The damage to the door was estimated by the building owner to cost about $1,000.

According to court documents, Anchorage police received a report of a burglary in progress at 700 West Fireweed Avenue around 11:54 p.m. Monday, where Alaska Gold is located.
The owner of the building said he was out of town but could see and hear someone breaking into the back of the building on the security cameras.
Upon arrival, APD officers saw the back door had been broken into and seemed to have been pried open. The owner sent someone with a key to unlock the front door for the APD.
The officers made multiple announcements from the front door on a vehicle PA and were armed with pepper balls, according to Chris Barraza, APD deputy community relations director.
Officers received no response, despite being audible even in the back of the building, as confirmed by the owner via the security system. According to court documents, one of the officers saw someone’s leg behind a display rack while they made their way through the building.
The officer yelled out not to move, but as K9 Kevin made his way to the man, they attempted to push the dog away.
K9 Kevin bit Todd’s leg and pulled him from behind the rack. Todd was arrested and taken to the hospital to heal his bite wounds. Officers cleared the rest of the building and did not find anyone else.
Todd admitted he was not supposed to be there and had stayed in the building for about three days.
The damage to the door was estimated by the building owner to cost about $1,000. Todd was arrested and is currently in custody at Anchorage Jail, Barraza said.
