An Assamese actor was arrested in Guwahati in connection with a hit-and-run case, NDTV reported. The actor was identified as Nandini Kashyap and was arrested after a 21-year-old student had died in a road accident in the city.

The victim in the case was named Samiul Haque, a student at Nalbari Polytechnic who also worked for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, the report quoted sources as saying.

Haque was mowed down by an SUV, allegedly being driven by Kashyap at nearly 3 am.

At the time of the accident, Haque was reportedly returning home in Guwahati’s Dakhingaon locality

The actor fled the spot after the incident, the report claimed.

In another similar incident, a school teacher was killed after being hit by a bus in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The bus skidded off the road and crashed, resulting in injuries to 10 passengers in the Behnipora area of Handwara.

Irshad Ahmad Lone, a government school teacher, was walking on the road when he was hit by the bus. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the accident.

The hit-and-run had occurred in Guwahati’s Dakhingaon locality around 3 am on July 25. The victim had been identified as Samiul Haque, a student at Nalbari Polytechnic who worked part-time for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

Haque, who had been working on a light project, was returning home when a speeding Scorpio allegedly driven by Kashyap ran him over, showed CCTV footage. The actor didn’t stop to help the injured student and fled, eyewitnesses said.

The victim died in the hospital last night. His colleagues, who had chased the vehicle after the hit-and-run, later traced it to an apartment in Kahilipara, where Kashyap allegedly tried to hide her SUV. Viral videos later showed a heated confrontation between them and the actor.

The police had earlier seized Kashyap’s car and questioned him in connection with the incident. She had then denied her involvement in the case.

“We arrested actor Nandini Kashyap today in the hit-and-run case. Earlier, we had only questioned her since the case was initially filed under bailable sections. However, last evening, the victim died due to his injuries. So we added charges of culpable homicide amounting to murder, which is non-bailable. We have arrested her and will produce her in a local court,” Jayanta Sarathi Borah, DCP (Traffic), Guwahati Police, told reporters.

Haque came from a poor family and was funding his education with his part-time job at the GMC.

His family said he suffered severe head injuries, multiple fractures in both his legs, and broken bones in his thigh and arm. He was first admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital and was later shifted to a private hospital. He died in the ICU late Tuesday evening.

Kashyap had initially promised to take care of Haque’s medical treatment, but never turned up to help, they further alleged.

Guwahati hit-and-run case: Actor Nandini Kashyap arrested ~ Assamese actor Nandini Kashyap, who was detained yesterday (July 29) night after the 21-year-old youth named Samiul Haq, whom she had allegedly mowed down in a sensational hit-and-run case on Friday night, died at a private hospital in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Nandini Kashyap, reports said, was detained near the Saraighat bridge after she was returning to the city from Mandakata where she was attending rehearsals at Rajdhani Theatres.

“She was arrested at 1:30 am as per procedures. A case has been registered at Dispur Police Station (Case No. 630/2025),” DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Borah said.

The actor, who was last seen in the Ravi Sarma-starrer ‘Rudra’, had mowed down the polytechnic student who was also working part-time to fund his studies, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, on Friday (July 25) night.

He was seriously injured in the accident with the actor, seen in a video shot by a few youths who were with Samiul installing streetlights at Dakhingaon, entering into an altercation with them after fleeing from the spot.

Samiul received multiple fractures in his hands and legs besides also suffering head injuries and was at first rushed to the ICU of GMCH but was shifted to Apollo Hospitals on Monday (July 28) for better treatment.

However, with his condition worsening, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening.

Significantly enough, although Nandini appeared before Dispur Police on Monday after receiving summons from cops, and was subjected to marathon questioning, she was allowed to go and was, surprisingly, not taken into custody.

Questions were also raised as to why the actor did not stop after the accident and shift the Samiul, who was seriously injured, to hospital.

Parents and relatives of the injured youth had earlier alleged that although their son was seriously injured in the accident, and Nandini Kashyap was at the wheels of the vehicle that was involved in the accident, she did not show the minimum courtesy to shift him to hospital but surprisingly fled from the scene.

She also did not visit them in the hospital to inquire about Samiul’s condition despite knowing that the young man was battling for life after being mowed down by the actor.
