ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WBNG) — Hundreds of people from across the United States made their way to Endicott on Tuesday evening for the annual Center for Transportation and Environment Summit.

BAE Systems was selected to host the event because of its success and innovation in creating zero-emission technology.

BAE Systems spokesperson John Hrnocich told 12 News this gives the company the perfect chance to showcase the advancements in global technology being made right in the heart of the Southern Tier.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to engage with the industry, and for the industry to engage with us,” said Hrnocich. “It’s all focused around clean transportation solutions. So, we’re really excited to be showcasing in this event.”

The company focuses on larger-scale vehicles such as heavy-duty machinery, like buses and other large trucks.

Although the everyday personal vehicle is far more common to find on the roads, Dan Raudebaugh, Executive Director of The Center for Transportation and Environment, said that large vehicles have a much higher rate of emissions.

“The medium and heavy-duty market is only about 4% to 5% of the total vehicles on the road, but it’s 25% of total emissions,” said Raudebaugh.

With an increasing number of industries looking to turn towards zero-emission vehicles in the future, Raudebaugh told 12 News that having trustworthy and established brands like BAE is a huge help to accelerate zero-emission technology.

“It’s good to come to a big organization like BAE and see the depth of their capabilities here,” said Raudebaugh. “It makes them (customers) feel a lot more comfortable, they have a partner that’s going to be around for a long time and knows what they’re doing.”

The trip for the Center for Transportation and Environment concluded with a tour around BAE’s facility to see the innovation created in Broome County.
