Over the last few years, the Buffalo Bills have tried to get younger on the defensive side of the ball. During the 2025 selection process, they used six of their nine draft picks on defensive players.

That doesn’t mean they are “out” on some of their aging veterans. In the case of one of those aging stars, Buffalo did what they needed to do to see him back on the field in 2025.

Tre’Davious White was once an All-Pro cornerback for the Bills. He was a major success story for the team and one of the better defensive backs in the game. After leaving the club in 2024, though, White became a free agent.

With back-to-back years of ineffective play or significant injuries, White signed a new deal with the Bills.

The star is back where he belongs.

That is clear from Bills’ head coach Sean McDermott’s conversations during offseason workouts over the last few months. Buffalo’s top man has been thrilled to have White back, not just as a player but also as a leader.

“Incredibly impressed by Tre and his willingness to serve, willingness to share, willingness to impart the wisdom he’s gained in this league for however many years he’s now been in the league and share that with those young players,” McDermott said on the team’s website. “It’s incredible, especially when they’re battling for potentially the same position. I think that really says a lot about who Tre is as a person.”

White needs to figure out a way to beat out younger players on the roster in 2025.

It’s clear that Buffalo loves having the veteran on their defense for the new season, though. The expectation is that he can be as helpful as a leader as he once was as an All-Pro.
