The Binghamton Police Department is asking residents not to travel unnecessarily on July 3 following the storm that passed through the area.

At 3:19 p.m. on July 3, National Weather Service Binghamton issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Broome and surrounding counties that remains valid until 10 p.m.

The storm passed through the area and, according to a press release issued by the City of Binghamton Police Department, caused trees and power lines to fall on several streets throughout the city.

“The Binghamton Police Department, the Binghamton Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and the City Parks Department are all currently working on opening the roadways,” said the department.
