MINNEAPOLIS — The annual Black Business Week takes off this Thursday, showcasing artists, vendors, entrepreneurs, and creators in Minneapolis.

The celebratory week began in 2021 as a way to appreciate the contributions that Black-owned businesses make to the diverse tapestry of Minneapolis.

“Black-owned businesses are foundational to the success of Minneapolis—past, present, and future,” said Mayor Jacob Frey in the press release.

Named the “Legacy on the Block: A Black Business Showcase,” this week seeks to promote inclusiveness and elevate community pride, said the statement.

“Black Business Week is about recognizing that investing in these entrepreneurs is an investment in equity, inclusion and the kind of generational wealth that uplifts entire communities. It’s how we build a stronger, more just city for everyone,” said Frey.

The events will commence at 2 p.m. with a tour of George Floyd Square and several Black businesses located at the northwestern corner of 38th Street and Chicago Ave.

“The 38th Street corridor is an important cultural connector in our city,” said Council Member Andrea Jenkins, Ward 8, in the statement. “….It’s an epicenter for racial justice and healing, and home to several Black-owned businesses – a community that deserves lasting investment.”

Among the featured events are East African Business Resource Fair, Black Business Week Summit, Weber Camden & Northside Epicenter Vlack Business Expo, and many others.

A full schedule of events can be found on the City’s website.
