California Rodeo Salinas concludes with varied business impacts
The California Rodeo Salinas concluded today, bringing mixed impacts to local businesses in Salinas. Ticket sales were slightly lower than last year, which may have been influenced by an increase in ticket prices for the first time since 2012. “Since Friday, it started getting busy with a lot of people, and we’re thankful to everyone who comes and supports Villa Azteca,” Leo Alvarez, co-owner of VillaAzteca said. “If they change anything at rodeo, if they have the tents open a little longer, at least the night shift old town won’t see enough business,” bartender Antonio Rodriguez said.
The California Rodeo Salinas, an annual event with over a century of traditions, concluded today, bringing mixed impacts to local businesses in Salinas.
Mandy Linquist, marketing manager for the California Rodeo Salinas, said, “We actually sold out on Wednesday for the Extreme bulls, and we sold out Friday night at the Rodeo, and we were up a little bit on Thursday, it looks like it was going to shake out to probably just over 68,000 people over the five days.”

This year’s ticket sales were slightly lower than last year, which may have been influenced by an increase in ticket prices for the first time since 2012.
“We also increased our ticket prices for the first time since 2012, so not sure if that impacted it,” Linquist said.
Some businesses felt the effect of less foot traffic in Old Town Salinas.
Antonio Rodriguez, bartender at Dubbers, said, “It’s a little less right now, like if they change anything at rodeo, if they have the tents open a little longer, at least the night shift old town won’t see enough business.”
Another business across the street reported being busy all weekend long.
“Since Friday, it started getting busy with a lot of people, and we’re thankful to everyone who comes and supports Villa Azteca,” Leo Alvarez, co-owner of Villa Azteca, said.
