Air India on Saturday said it would not comment on specific details, citing the active nature of the investigation. “Given the active nature of the investigation, we are unable to comment on specific details and refer all such enquiries to the AAIB,” the airline said in a statement following the release of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s (AAIB) preliminary report on July 12.

Air India acknowledged its receipt and emphasised its ongoing cooperation with authorities. “We acknowledge receipt of the preliminary report released by the AAIB) today, 12 July 2025,” it posted on X.
The airline added that it was working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including regulators, as the investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
“Air India is working closely with stakeholders, including regulators. We continue to fully cooperate with the AAIB and other authorities as their investigation progresses,” it said.
The carrier also expressed its continued grief and solidarity with the victims of the tragedy.
“Air India stands in solidarity with the families and those affected by the AI171 accident. We continue to mourn the loss and are fully committed to providing support during this difficult time.”
According to the preliminary report released by the AAIB, the fuel control switches of Air India flight AI171 were turned off and later switched back on shortly before the aircraft crashed near Ahmedabad on June 12, killing 260 people.
The AAIB report does not recommend any immediate safety action for operators of the Boeing 787-8 aircraft but flags the in-flight manipulation of fuel controls as a critical detail under investigation. The cause of the action remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
