Cassidy Thanked for His Work to Lower Taxes in Small Business Roundtable
U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) met with a group of Louisiana small business owners in Baton Rouge,hosted by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Cassidy was thanked for his effort to preserve the right of pass-through smallbusiness owners to deduct 20% of their qualified business income off their federal tax. The One, Big, Beautiful Bill made this deduction permanent.
“Small business owners know how to create jobs,” said Dr. Cassidy. “By letting them keep more of their money, the One, Big, Beautiful Bill will help them fulfill their goal. It’s good for employers and employees.”
In addition to tax relief for small businesses, their employees also benefit from the One, Big, Beautiful Bill. Federal income tax cuts from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 were made permanent. The child tax credit was increased to a maximum of $2,200 in 2026, and tax deductions for tips, overtime work, and Social Security retirement benefits were included.
Moreover, workforce Pell Grants were created, which will help train workers to take jobs created by small businesses. The oil and gas industry will also benefit, with a requirement that no fewer than 2 lease sales per year be held in the central and western areas of the Gulf of America.
Cassidy was welcomed to the roundtable by Ms. Leah Long, the director of the Louisiana office of the National Federation of Independent Business.
“We appreciate Senator Cassidy taking the time to meet with our members and answer their questions about the beneficial ownership information mandate and other issues that directly affect their ability to own, operate, and grow their small businesses,” said Ms. Long. “Our members are also grateful for his support of legislation to make the 20% small business deduction permanent. This deduction empowers Main Street businesses to grow, hire, invest in jobs, and give back to their communities. It provides certainty and helps level the playing field for small businesses competing against large corporate competitors.”
