The Anatomy of Hailey Bieber’s Style

Bieber has become a trendsetter in the fashion space. Her most reliable pieces are trench coats, slim sunglasses, and loafers. She pairs her loafers and calf-high socks with everything from her gym clothes to her dinner date outfits. She loves to show off her long legs with an ultra-short hem, rocking everything from a vintage red velvet Saint Laurent skirt suit to a sexy pink Vivienne Westwood number. She even took her love of the mini all the way to the 2025 Met Gala, wearing nothing but a Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket on the blue floral carpet with low-denier tights.

What makes a Hailey Bieber outfit instantly recognizable? Along with her influence in the beauty arena, Bieber has become a bona fide trendsetter in the fashion space, embracing everything from menswear and oversized pouch bags to “Strawberry Girl Summer” and lace maternity catsuits.

But at the end of the day, in spite of the trends, Bieber’s style is telltale, yet replicable. Sure, not everybody can copy her custom Saint Laurent dresses or her vintage Ralph Lauren coat to a tee. But when we boil it down, her most reliable pieces are basics: trench coats, slim sunglasses, and loafers are among the anchors in her wardrobe—pieces many people will also count among their own stalwarts.

In Elements of Style, we’re distilling a celebrity’s fashion sense into its most basic components. Here, we break down the five key pieces in Hailey Bieber’s closet.

A full-length coat

Every season is coat season if you want it badly enough. Bieber has proven time and time again that a floor-dusting trench goes with everything—including jorts and fisherman sandals. But she’s also leaned hard into après-ski style in faux-fur Ferragamo and vintage Ralph Lauren.

What: Ferragamo, Ralph Lauren, Mango, The Row

Where: Date night in Aspen, GNO at Sushi Park, Chiltern Firehouse

Wear it with: A cropped white T-shirt, pedal pushers, fisherman sandals, a baseball cap

Loafers with thick white socks

A key component of her off-duty style, Bieber pairs her loafers and calf-high socks with everything from her gym clothes to her dinner date outfits. A note to anyone hoping to steal her style: Bieber is especially fond of pairing her chunky footwear with shorter hems. While she has plenty of classic loafers, she’s also dabbled with funkier pairs, like her heeled Loewes, square-toed Jil Sanders, and blue suede Miu Mius.

What: Loewe, Miu Miu, Jil Sander, Proenza Schouler

Where: Shopping, a spa date, a coffee-tasting session at Pacific Café in West Hollywood

Wear it with: Jorts, a Faire Isle sweater, a bomber jacket, a miniskirt

A thigh-skimming mini

Bieber loves to show off her long legs with an ultra-short hem, rocking everything from a vintage red velvet Saint Laurent skirt suit to a sexy pink Vivienne Westwood number. She even took her love of the mini all the way to the 2025 Met Gala, wearing nothing but a Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket on the blue floral carpet. Complete the look with low-denier tights, a black pointy-toe pump, and a shoulder bag.

Whether it’s chunky Velcro styles or strappy heels , the right socks can take them to a new level. Ahead, 15 unexpected sock-and-sandal pairings that’ll inject some personality and just the right amount of chaotic good into your outfits.

As with most polarizing trends, pulling it off is more about confidence than rules. And the best part? You don’t need to shop for anything new. Odds are, you already have a pair of sandals that can make the look feel intentional. We love it when you can partake in the latest trends using items straight from your closet.

If you’re still side-eyeing the idea of socks with sandals, consider this your sign to reconsider. What was once considered a fashion faux pas has fully crossed over into trend territory—less suburban dad on vacation, more fashion editor on the streets of Paris or Tokyo. Yup, socks and sandals are officially a *thing* and they’re being embraced by designers, editors, and street style stars alike.

01 of 15 Balance a Bold Print Getty Images Don’t give up on those printed or patterned sandals just because they don’t match your usual clothes. Slip on some neutral socks to bring everything together and make the look work. This mix lets your shoes be the standout piece without clashing.

02 of 15 Color Match Your Accessories Getty Images One way to create cohesion in an outfit using only socks and sandals is to wear a pair of socks that match your accessories—whether it’s your bag, belt, or other accent pieces. By narrowing the colors in your outfit down to just two, you’ll add a level of intentionality and style to your look.

03 of 15 Sheer Luxury Getty Images Think of sheer socks as the equivalent to the naked dress, but for your feet. This soft texture injects an instantly flirty vibe to your outfit and can look so elegant when paired together with some sandals or heels.

04 of 15 Monochrome Getty Images Go all in on tonal dressing by matching your socks to your heels and outfit. It’ll look seamless and super curated, especially when you go for shade that’s in the same color family, but either slightly lighter or darker to add some contrast.

05 of 15 Opt for Comfy and Whimsical Getty Images You don’t need to teeter around in sky-high heels to make socks and sandals work for you. A pair of vibrant, low sandals and whimsically printed socks is the perfect combination. The best part? It gives a casual ‘fit a fresh, fun finishing touch.

06 of 15 Go for Glitter Dave Benett/ Getty Images for Charles Jeffrey It doesn’t get more chic (at least in sock world) than a pair of glitter socks that take the phrase “twinkle toes” to another level. Glitter socks with a few pops of color are a great option if you want to add some depth to a mostly monochromatic outfit nestled right in the scope of your fave color palette.

07 of 15 Lean Into Business Casual Getty Images The most normcore sock and sandal pairing on our list, plain white socks and brown Birkenstocks are a classic for a reason. They’re also super casual unless you wear them as part of a deconstructed business casual look. But think light on the business and heavy on the casual, such as an oversized blazer, leggings or sweats, and a plain white tee.

08 of 15 Contrast Stripes Getty Images Pairing horizontal and vertical stripes can seem like a bit much—but, confined to socks and sandals— contrasting stripes serve sophistication, not circus. You can do this by switching up the direction of the stripes (like mixing vertical and horizontal lines) or going with two differently toned colors, like blue and orange.

09 of 15 Crispy Whites Getty Images When you’re wearing sandals, adding a pair of white socks might feel counterintuitive, but it can actually be the extra detail that sets it apart. With its crisp, clean lines and style, it works well either as an accent piece or blended into the rest of your outfit.

10 of 15 Try Black and Tan Getty Images Wearing black and tan is a world away from wearing black and brown. And as a sandals combination, it also adds a touch of elevated taste to a trendy look, especially if you work a pair of khaki shorts into the fashion equation. Bonus points if you add a pop of color with a vibrant blazer.

11 of 15 Colorblock Getty Image When matchy-matchy works, it works. This take is bold and innovative, featuring bright, contrasting shades that nail colorblocking to a T. To get the eye-catching aesthetic, make sure the various hues match exactly for maximum impact.

12 of 15 Mix Textures Getty Images If you’re a fan of matching but still want to create a bit of contrast, you can try mixing textures within the same color palette. Take this open-knit black sock with a black velvet sandal combo: the differing textures freshen up a simple monochrome color palette.

13 of 15 Step Into Florals Getty Images If you’ve got an outfit that has a lot of color, add a fun print via a pair of floral patterned socks. It adds a bit of whimsy and, depending on the colors in the floral pattern, can pull a whole look together.

14 of 15 Pair Crew Socks With Flatforms Getty Images For a street style-informed take on socks and sandals, try wearing athletic crew socks with a pair of platform sandals or flatforms. If you’re going the all-white route, consider wearing a different color shoe to add dimension and interest to your outfit. However, if your ensemble will be colorful, try a black or white shoe to let the outfit shine.

Naked Sandals

When Hailey Bieber hits the streets, we are all eyes. Lately, she’s been gravitating towards barely-there sandals that add an instant dose of elegance to any outfit—even a simple trench coat, T-shirt, and capri pants pairing. The key is to choose a walking-friendly, kitten heel height for comfort, with ultra-thin strap designs to keep it feeling fresh and of-the-moment. Opt for designer iterations from Khaite and Toteme for an investment purchase, or shop a snakeskin-printed steal from Mango. These are certainly going to see plenty of wear over the next few months.

Whether you want to go the sporty route this season, like Sofia Richie Grange, whose throwback Reeboks play up the idea of retro sport—a theme we can’t seem to get enough of currently—to other street style-friendly options that are stealing the spotlight, such as the sleek, Adidas Taekwondo (seen on countless It girls during Fashion Week), you can truly never go wrong with a white sneaker for maximum versatility; pair accordingly with dresses, white jeans, and more.

Buckled Slides

Although a buckled slide is nothing new, the idea has been transported onto the runway this spring/summer 2025 season, with design-forward results. Both Loewe and Chloé served up their own spin on the black, buckled sandal in luxe leather, while Dakota Johnson stepped out in Los Angeles wearing the iconic Arizona style from Birkenstock—a consistent, summer essential which won’t break the bank. With sandal season right around the corner, it’s time to start making wardrobe plans for your 2025 spring and summer shoe game. Last year it was all about embellished toe-ring sandals, but the year before that—thong sandals reigned supreme. Footwear trends come and go, but certain shoes, like fisherman sandals, have proven to withstand the test of time.

Dating back centuries, fisherman sandals were first worn by, well, fishermen. But if you look back at old family photos, you might even stumble upon a memory of you and your bothers rocking the gender-neutral style in the ’90s. Known for their signature woven design, fisherman sandals allow water to drain through them making them a practical nautical option. And with nautical styles, like boat shoes, becoming popular again, it makes total sense that we’re seeing the fisherman style pop back up, too.

“Over the last few seasons, we have seen a rise in nautical-inspired style starting with the Miu Miu spring/summer 2024 runway show, and the fisherman sandal is the consummate nautical shoe,” says stylist, Arielle Siboni. The runways also featured woven fisherman sandals for spring/summer 2024 from brands like Loewe. Michael Kors also doubled down on the style, showing pointed fisherman sandals in his spring/summer 2025 collection.

Contrary to what you may have thought, fisherman sandals aren’t only for bathing suits and vacationwear. Michael Kors showed that they can be styled with suiting and Loewe showcased them with a leather midi skirt. “I think fisherman sandals are inherently casual, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be paired back to a summer dress or a tailored pair of shorts,” says Siboni.

If you’re looking for more ways to incorporate fisherman sandals into your spring/summer 2025 wardrobe, below are 10 outfit ideas to wear the stylish shoe.
