The NHL went all out for the 2025 Draft, calling on the efforts of some of the biggest celebrities, sports stars and personalities to announce picks, resulting in some incredible moments for fans and prospects alike.
Already a special time in each prospect’s life, it was made even more dramatic by having people like Adam Sandler announce that James Hagens would be the newest member of the Boston Bruins and Happy Gilmore’s new favourite player.
Nothing against NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, of course, but nothing says Philadelphia quite like King Charles Barkley, who announced the Flyers’ selection of Porter Martone and talked about his love for hockey.
Standing at six-foot-six, Radim Mrtka has gotten used to being up in the clouds. But the closest to heaven that he’ll ever be was likely hearing his name called by legendary Buffalo band The Goo Goo Dolls, who announced the Sabres’ pick at No. 9.
The celebrity cameos continued on throughout the night, with appearances from athletes like Hockey Hall of Famer Jeremy Roenick (Blackhawks), WWE superstar Bayley (Sharks) and legendary director Jerry Bruckheimer.
The Anaheim Ducks decided to call on some of their own for the 10th overall pick, bringing out actors Jackson Jackson and Marguerite Moreau, famous for their roles on the 1992 classic ‘The Mighty Ducks,’ to bring Roger McQueen into the Flying V.
Pittsburgh brought in one of their franchise legends to announce the selection of Benjamin Kindel at No. 11, tabbing Kris Letang and his son to step onto the stage — an honour the defenceman didn’t get to experience after going in the third round of the 2005 Draft.
