2025 Pro-Am begins ahead of Travelers Championship

The Travelers Championship Pro-Am was scheduled to start around 1 p.m. Wednesday. The official tournament starts Thursday at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. CROMWELL, CT (WFSB) – The Travelers Championship Pro-Am was scheduled to tee off on Wednesday afternoon.

While the official tournament starts Thursday, some familiar faces and star power were set to hit the links at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.

At 7 a.m., a handful of celebrities from sports and entertainment, including longtime ESPN personality Chris Berman, warmed up.

Play for the pro-am was scheduled to start around 1 p.m.

“It’s just fun. I love golf. To get the opportunity to play golf for the day is a no brainer,” said Andre Tippett, an NFL Hall of Fame linebacker.

“It’s been fun it’s great being out here I’m so appreciative of Andy Bessette asking me to play every year. It’s an honor and a privilege,” said Mike Cavanaugh, the head coach of the UConn hockey team.

Fans gathered not only to get a glimpse of their bygone heroes, but also the current day stars of the PGA Tour.

“The lax environment of a Wednesday afternoon is awesome. The players have been great so far. They are eager to take pictures and autographs,” said Drew Wilson, Milford.

One big name who was in Cromwell was Tiger Woods. However, he didn’t play. He is serving on a committee that was tasked with selecting the next CEO of the PGA Tour.

When the championship begins Thursday, top-ranked golfer and defending champion Scottie Scheffler will headline the field.

Other fan favorites such as Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth were also expected to draw large crowds.

Channel 3 had participants in Wednesday’s charity mini-golf tournament. A team of Tracey McCain, Marc Robbins, and Joe Zone earned $2,500 for the Dense D’Ascenzo Foundation.

The Travelers Championship was described as the only PGA Tour stop in the northeast. Organizers said it has raised more than $30 million for local charities since 2007.
