NFL schedule overreactions: Cowboys, Lions really need to play on Christmas? Chiefs in prime time too much?

The NFL released its 2025 schedule on May 14. There are plenty of quirks to tackle on this year’s slate. The Lions and Cowboys are the Thanksgiving Day staple, with the Lions playing the early Thanksgiving game since 1934. The Chiefs are playing in five prime-time games over the first eight weeks, tied for the most of any team in NFL history. The Eagles and Commanders playing twice in three weeks is great for the end of the season, especially at point in the season in the NFC East.. The NFL clearly used high ratings as part of its scheduling formula for networks this year. For the NFC Championship teams that faced off in the last season, this late in the schedule is really the schedule for the late season in late January and early February. And, of course, there’s the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles playing on nearly every day of the week, including Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is not a traditional holiday for the NFL. The games will be broadcasted or streamed on 11 different platforms, making the schedule bigger than ever before. The schedule will be released on May 15, and it will be available for download on the NFL’s website and on Netflix in the U.S. for the first time on May 16, and in the UK on May 17, and May 18, for the rest of the world on May 18 and May 19, and on May 20, for Canada on May 19 and 20, and the rest on May 21, and so on and so forth, until it’s released in full on May 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30, and then again on May 28, 30, 31, and June 1, 2014, and July 1, 2015, and August 1, 2016, in New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, San Antonio, New Orleans, Atlanta, Washington, Dallas, Washington and San Diego. It’s a long list, but it’s a good one. Read full article

2025 NFL regular season key games: Commanders, Chiefs draw prime-time spotlight

The full 2025 NFL schedule was announced on Wednesday. The New York Giants open with back-to-back trips to the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys in Weeks 1 and 2. The Chiefs have seven prime-time contests and are the popular holiday team with games on Thanksgiving at Dallas and Christmas against the Denver Broncos. There are plenty of rematches and reunions between players/coaches and their former teams in the 257-game schedule. The NFL’s smallest field, Lambeau Field, will be the NFL’s smallest Super Bowl XLVIII game at the end of the 2025 season, with the New England Patriots taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in New Jersey. The Super Bowl will be held in New York City on January 31, 2023, and in San Francisco on January 30, 2024. It will also be the first time since the 2000 season that the Giants have played a game against their former team, the Jets, in a season-long series that runs through 2023. It is also the last time the Eagles and Chiefs will play a Super Bowl rematch at Arrowhead, but now, Kansas City is coming off a loss against the Eagles in last season’s AFC Championship game. It’ll be the second time in three years that the Chiefs and Eagles will face each other in a regular-season game. The Eagles beat the Chiefs 27-25 in the AFC Divisional round last year. The Patriots beat the Raiders 19-17 in October 2021. It was Tom Brady and the Raiders’ first playoff game as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2001.
