Chiefs Urged To Make Desperate RB Trade
Chiefs Urged To Make Desperate RB Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It remains unlikely that the New York Jets will trade running back Breece Hall. But if they were? The Kansas City Chiefs have been mentioned as a team that should be interested. The Chiefs averaged just 3.7 yards per carry last season … but they have already made their intended moves this offseason to try patching that hole. The Jets will likely deploy a committee approach with Hall sharing touches with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. The former Iowa State standout may not like that very much – as he’s already publicly dismissed the idea – but it won’t be until at least near the trade deadline until anything can get done about it. It would overpopulate and complicate this room even more.
It remains unlikely that the New York Jets will trade running back Breece Hall.
But if they were? The Kansas City Chiefs, with the rhetoric of “helping Patrick Mahomes win another Super Bowl”, have been mentioned as a team that should be interested.

Despite KC adding two ball carriers this offseason and returning the top two from the 2024 depth chart, Bleacher Report’s Mitchel Milani believes they need another. He couldn’t help but blurt out a hypothetical pitch that sends rising star Hall to the Chiefs in exchange for a third-round NFL Draft pick.
“In his first two years, [Hall] was a per-play, per-carry machine. He is also a really good pass catcher. I could kind of see – stay with me here – some Brian Westbrook in his game,” Milani said, referring to ex-Eagle Westbrook’s gifted receiving ability out of the backfield.
“If I’m Andy Reid, when I look at the Chiefs’ deficiencies last year, they didn’t have a running back that they could rely on in pass-catching situations. They didn’t have a running back that they could rely on to finish a game.”
Yes, the Chiefs averaged just 3.7 yards per carry last season … but they have already made their intended moves this offseason to try patching that hole.

Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt are still on the team. In the seventh round, the team drafted Brashard Smith, who boasts a 4.37 40-yard dash time from the Combine. Additionally, KC added a veteran presence in former San Francisco 49ers ball-carrier Elijah Mitchell.
The Chiefs are desperate for more production. Not another running back.
Adding Hall – as promising a talent as he is – would overpopulate and complicate this room even more.
And at the expense of a premium draft pick? No shot.
The idea of the Jets trading Hall, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, also doesn’t seem to make much sense, at least right now.

His name has been circulating the rumor mill for months, but new head coach Aaron Glenn has repeatedly stated that he wants to keep Hall on the roster to start this season.
New York hopes to be a run-heavy team, and it’ll likely deploy a committee approach with Hall sharing touches with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.
The former Iowa State standout may not like that very much – as he’s already publicly dismissed the idea – but it won’t be until at least near the trade deadline until anything can get done about it.
For all we know, Hall could reemerge as a premier running back again and regain clear RB1 status in the Big Apple, thus wiping the thought of trading him.

And for Kansas City, they’ve made three straight Super Bowls with a mediocre run game … who’s to say that can’t happen again?
With a fairly open competition between four bodies, the Chiefs are perfectly fine letting things play out.
At least until the trade deadline … when proposals like this actually have evidence to defend them.

‘Smartest Move Possible’: Broncos Urged to Trade First Round Pick
Denver Broncos haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2019. The Broncos have the No. 20 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft. They could leverage their first round pick into a meaningful trade haul. The best target for a trade partner for the Broncos might be the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, who could probably be talked into swapping first round picks with the Broncos. The Eagles could offer up the swap of first rounders along with their fourth round pick (No. 122 overall) and the last of their sixth round picks (no. 228 overall) in exchange for a third round pick. The last of the Eagles’ three fifth round picks would be No. 168 overall.
The Broncos haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2019 and the player who led the team in rushing 2 of the last 3 seasons — Javonte Williams — is gone to the Dallas Cowboys in free agency.
The Broncos don’t just have a need to establish a featured back, they have a need to revamp the entire position. From the starter to reliable backups, they need it all.
The reality is the Broncos probably aren’t going to ascend higher than they did in 2024, when they lost in the AFC Wild Card Round, without improving their running game. Another reality is sitting with the No. 20 overall pick in the first round doesn’t guarantee they’ll get one of the running backs with first round grades in Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty and North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton.
The Broncos are in luck, though. This year’s draft class is stacked at running back, so they should be able to get really good value at the position in the later rounds. That means they might be able to leverage their first round pick into a meaningful trade haul, which could be the smartest move possible.
The key to that is finding desperate trade partners — figure out what teams behind them in the first round are gung-ho for a player they think they can get at No. 20 overall or figure out what teams are in need of a complete overhaul that might necessitate two first round picks in a single year, a la what the Houston Texans did in 2022 when they landed quarterback C.J. Stroud and linebacker Will Anderson in the first round.
Gauging Trade Partners for the No. 20 Overall Pick
The best target for a trade partner for the Broncos might be the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, who could probably be talked into swapping first round picks — the Eagles pick at No. 32 — along with a further trade package.
The Eagles have been on a hot streak drafting defensive backs and might be enticed to move up 12 spots to take a safety to replace C.J. Gardner-Johnson — possibly South Carolina’s Nick Emmanwori.
In exchange, the Broncos could offer up the swap of first rounders along with their fourth round pick (No. 122 overall) and the last of their sixth round picks (No. 228 overall) in exchange for a third round pick (No. 96 overall) and the last of the Eagles’ three fifth round picks (No. 168 overall).
What Happens if Broncos Don’t Make Moves
There is another, chaotic option the Broncos could choose at running back. That would be staying put and putting their faith in the running backs they have on the roster.
While it won’t make fans happy, it probably wouldn’t be as dire as we might think. It would likely mean Jaleel McLaughlin stepping into the starting role and Audric Estime as his backup.
McLaughlin was second on the Broncos with 496 rushing yards and 1 touchdown while averaging 4.4 yards per carry in 2024 while Estime had 310 rushing yards and 1 touchdown while averaging 4.4 yards per carry during his rookie year.
Buccaneers Urged to Trade 1,500-Yard RB to AFC West
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving had over 1,000 yards of total offense for the second consecutive season in 2024. Veteran Rachaad White took Irving under his wing from the moment he was drafted and helped turn Irving into one of the NFL’s elite running backs. White is still an elite running back in his prime and has 1 season left on the 4-year, $5.1 million contract he signed in May 2022. The Broncos made the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season and had their first winning season since 2016 but were blown out by the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card Round. Bleacher Report has running back listed as the No. 1 offseason priority for the Denver Broncos.
That’s because veteran Rachaad White took Irving under his wing from the moment he was drafted and — through sheer selflessness — helped turn Irving into one of the NFL’s elite running backs and a 1,000-yard rusher from the jump. That White did so with no regard to his own bottom line speaks more to character than anything.
It also overlooks the fact that White is still an elite running back in his prime. With Irving now clearly the featured back in the offense, it’s time the Buccaneers make a move that not only benefits the franchise but also for White. That means trade him to a team where he can be the featured back — and there should be plenty of suitors.
Tampa Bay should focus on 2 main objectives in seeking a trade partner for White, who had over 1,000 yards of total offense for the second consecutive season in 2024 (including over 1,500 yards in 2023) and has 1 season left on the 4-year, $5.1 million contract he signed in May 2022.
The first objective should be getting draft picks back in the process. White might be worth a second or third round pick, straight up, or maybe 2 picks in the later rounds. Think a fourth round pick and a sixth round pick.
The second objective should be sending White to the AFC and far away from Tampa Bay — he’s not the type of player the Buccaneers want coming back to bite them in the future.
AFC West Has 2 Teams in Desperate Need of RBs
The AFC West has 2 teams in desperate need of running backs. Bleacher Report has running back listed as the No. 1 offseason priority for the Denver Broncos and the No. 4 offseason priority for the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Broncos made the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season and had their first winning season since 2016 but were blown out by the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card Round. It’s easy to see how Denver head coach Sean Payton would be able to tap into White’s full potential, much like he did with the New Orleans Saints and another do-it-all running back in Alvin Kamara.
“Unfortunately, the Broncos were never a complete team because they struggled to run the ball consistently on the ground,” Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote on January 14. “They ranked 21st in yards per carry and didn’t have a single running back establish himself as a difference-maker. Javonte Williams led the team with 513 rushing yards but averaged only 3.7 yards per carry.”
Trading White also gives him the opportunity to secure a big payday after next season, because whatever money the Buccaneers have budgeted for a long-term running back in the future is almost certainly going to Irving. Not to mention the need to spend on a wide receiver and the opportunity to turn those draft picks into either a trade for a defensive starter or draft a starter at edge rusher or cornerback.
Sending White to a team like the Raiders might also allow him to get paid right away.
Las Vegas has an estimated $99 million in cap space available in 2025 and would be smart to trade for White and cut a deal with him — something along the lines of a 2-year, $15 million contract extension.
Chase Young Trade Rumors: Struggling AFC giants urged to make move for $13,000,000 DE to revive season, by NFL analyst
Chase Young joined the New Orleans Saints on a one-year $13-million contract. The Cincinnati Bengals have been struggling to gain footing at 3-5. The Los Angeles Chargers are struggling to get to opposing quarterbacks despite having Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. The Green Bay Packers are looking to bolster their pass rush led by Rashan Gary and Preston Smith. The Detroit Lions are desperate for a top edge rusher after losing Aidan Hutchinson to a leg fracture. The New York Jets and the Washington Commanders have always drawn a game because Bill Belichick is his favorite coach, and his all-time favorite Super Bowl is the XLII edition, when the New England Patriots upset the New York Giants. The Patriots will be the defending champions at the Super Bowl in January 2019, and it will be a highly controversial game, as New England has never won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick at the helm. The game will be played in New Orleans, where the Saints have won two Super Bowls.

When Chase Young joined the New Orleans Saints on a one-year $13-million contract, he was expected to add dynamicism to their pass rushing game. But after wins in the first two games, the team devolved to look like a seller amidst a seven-game losing streak and the firing of coach Dennis Allen.

One of the victims of a potential purge could be the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year, and there are several interested buyers if that happens. One of them is the Cincinnati Bengals, who have been struggling to gain footing at 3-5.
The 33rd Team’s Tyler Brooke has said that he would be a great addition to a unit that has been being carried by Pro Bowler Trey Hendrickson through the first eight games, putting them at a middling 18th in pass rush win rate:

“Pressure on opposing quarterbacks can compensate for many issues on a defense, and the Bengals have enough offensive firepower to force opponents to continue passing the ball. A Hendrickson-Young duo on third downs could make things much harder for offensive lines to plan for with their pass protection.”

To that end, he suggests giving away Chase Young and a 2026 sixth-round pick for a conditional 2025 fifth-rounder (could become a fourth-rounder if certain performance criteria are met).

Other trade packages for Chase Young, explained
The Bengals aren’t the only ones in the Chase Young sweepstakes. Another AFC team, the Los Angeles Chargers, are struggling to get to opposing quarterbacks despite having Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa – 28th in pass rush win rate and only 18 sacks.
Bosa has also been struggling with a hip injury that has limited his availiability. Mack, meanwhile, will be a free agent after the season. Thus, Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz will need a contingency plan at the edges, and The 33rd Team suggests getting the defensive end for a fifth-round pick.

The last two contenders come from the NFC North – the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers – respectively.
It’s no secret that the Lions are desperate for a top edge rusher after losing Aidan Hutchinson to a leg fracture. A trade for a fourth-rounder could make sense for both parties – Chase Young gets to become a primary starter for the first time since the first half of the 2023 season, while the Saints get another asset that they could use on, say, a wideout.
The Packers, meanwhile, are looking to bolster their pass rush led by Rashan Gary and Preston Smith. Another thing going for them is that defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley once coached Young at Ohio State, so there’s already some semblance of familiarity. Just as with the Chargers and Bengals, a fifth-rounder is the compensation.
