The Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley has introduced the “River Valley Health Fund” to enhance healthcare services across the region.

This initiative was prompted by the closures of East Ohio Regional Hospital and Ohio Valley Medical Center that left many families without essential medical assistance.

“This is a way for the intentions of those resources to continue on and the donor intent of those resources to carry on,” said Debbie Stanton, program officer, CFOV.

The program aims to provide health screenings, medical, and dental care, with support from various community leaders.

“It’s available to nonprofit organizations, 501(c)(3), police, fire, school, libraries to apply under those focus areas of health and wellness,” Stanton said.

With West Virginia and Ohio often falling low on the totem pole for health value, Stanton says the need continues to grow.

“It can be really important for this type of resource to be available for folks seeking those services through these nonprofit organizations and entities to able to offer these services for something like diabetes screening or heart health or something like that,” she said.

The application window is open until July 11, with funding announcements expected in August. For those interested in donating, more information is available .
