Amid fresh allegations by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi about elections being “stolen”, the Election Commission has called attempts to “defame” it after any “unfavourable verdict by voters” as “completely absurd”.The commission asserted that elections are conducted strictly as per the law, with their scale and accuracy being globally recognised.”Any misinformation being spread, by anyone, is not only a sign of disrespect towards the law, but also brings disrepute to thousands of party-appointed representatives and demotivates lakhs of election staff who work untiringly and transparently during elections,” the EC said.Highlighting the role of party representatives , the Commission said that preparation of electoral rolls, polling, and counting is carried out by government staff in the presence of authorised party agents-from polling stations to the constituency.
