What Readers Loved About Austin Hotels

Travelers to Austin are rarely bored. Between its beloved BBQ scene, contemporary art museums like the Blanton Museum of Art, and its gorgeous natural spaces like Barton Springs, there are plenty of ways to spend a day. As for where to lay your head at night, T+L readers voted for places that offer seclusion but aren’t far off the beaten path, including the Austin Proper Hotel & Residences (No. 2), where restaurants serve locally sourced ingredients to show off Texas flavors at their finest. Archer Hotel Austin (No. 5) also stood out for its locally inspired decor, including a massive Lone Star in the pool, and for being just a quick ride away from Rainey Street’s live music venues for a fantastic night out. However, no spot won more love than the Commodore Perry Estate, Auberge Resorts Collection, which brings a 10-acre space to this 10-gallon hat destination.

What Readers Loved About Dallas-Fort Worth Hotels

In Dallas–Fort Worth, readers gave high praise to properties that bring the Wild West spirit into the modern era, including The Adolphus (No. 4), where a meticulously restored 1912 building holds elegant touches, a rooftop pool deck, and a real Rodeo Bar. Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek (No. 2) also charmed guests with its historic setting and dining options that give a nod to North Texas’s ranching heritage. But this year, no hotel attracted Dallas fans more than Hotel Drover, Autograph Collection.

Hotel Drover, Autograph Collection, located in Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards, pulls in plenty of charm in its design, including across its rooms that resemble luxury ranch lodging with exposed beams, dark wood headboards, and colorful textile touches. There’s also a Lucchese boot boutique in the lobby, so every guest can snag a pair to bring home as the ultimate Texas souvenir. “Hotel Drover is the definition of Texas: friendly staff, Western decor, and a Texas [food] menu,” one guest shared. “While you’re wrapped in the subtle details of Hotel Drover, they do not try and make it feel like you’re somewhere else, as most hotels do. You feel you are in the heart of Fort Worth in one of Texas’ most iconic hotels. I recommend Hotel Drover over anywhere else in the state.”

What Readers Loved About Houston Hotels

In Houston, readers gravitated toward properties that deliver uncompromising luxury, and having easy access to the city’s best sites didn’t seem to hurt either. Hilton Americas-Houston’s (No. 5) close proximity to the Downtown Aquarium lets families enjoy easy afternoons, and its infinity pool with a fantastic city view lets all guests drink in the city without ever having to leave the property. Hotel ZaZa Houston Museum District (No. 2) also impressed thanks to its spacious, design-driven suites (just check out those clawfoot beds and sexy velvet furnishings) and its must-visit spa. But this year, The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston took home the No. 1 spot with its grand luxury touches that are so big and so over-the-top they could only be found in Texas.

The Post Oak Hotel is massive—and that’s putting it lightly. The hotel is spread across 700,000 square feet of space and includes hundreds of guestrooms and suites across its 38 floors. There’s even a two-story penthouse suite, complete with its own elevator access, to make this stay even more over-the-top. And naturally, there’s a world-class spa on site and a Rolls‑Royce showroom in case you need to pick up a new ride. The hotel, one reader shared, is “impeccable in every way, from the service before you even walk in the door, to the stunning rooms and views, to the food at Bloom & Bee and Bouchon, to the wine at Stella’s Wine Bar to the incredible craft cocktails at H Bar. Not to mention the Spa, which is a destination in itself. You don’t even need to leave the hotel to have an incredible experience in Houston.” They also noted one more incredible on-site perk: “There is a rooftop helipad so that you don’t even have to sit in Houston traffic if you don’t want to.”
