Dallas Mavericks make another addition to their coaching staff
The Dallas Mavericks have added another assistant to their coaching staff. This is the third time in two years that the team has added an assistant to its staff. The previous two were with the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks have also signed D’Angelo Russell and Klay Thompson.
Penberthy departs from his previous role as an assistant on the Denver Nuggets, a position in which he held since 2022. He has also been an assistant for the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2018-19 season, and for the Los Angeles Lakers from 2019 to 2022.
Penberthy, Kidd, and recently-hired assistant Frank Vogel were all on staff for the 2020 Lakers team that won the championship. Now, they’ll reunite in Dallas as they look to compete for another championship.
It has been a very active offseason so far for the Mavericks. They’ve picked up No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, signed D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum in free agency, and have managed to keep Jason Kidd in town as the team’s head coach despite a valiant effort by the New York Knicks to poach him before they hired Mike Brown.
The Mavericks are equipped with a strong roster led by Flagg, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, along with Russell and Exum, and now have a very strong coaching staff as well with Penberthy and Vogel now joining Kidd in Dallas this offseason.
