DC security tightened as officials monitor potential cyberattacks, threats post-airstrikes
D.C. authorities are taking precautionary measures in anticipation of potential cyber or physical reprisals. Homeland Security officials say they’re actively monitoring for signs of retaliation, including cyberattacks and so-called “asymmetric threats” The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has ramped up patrols throughout the District, particularly near:Synagogues and mosques. Federal installations such as Joint Base Andrews and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center have implemented stricter access control protocols. Despite rising international tensions and increased chatter online, MPD and federal authorities reiterated that there are no specific or credible threats to D.C., at this time.
While there is no credible threat to D.C., federal and local authorities are taking precautionary measures in anticipation of potential cyber or physical reprisals.
According to the Pentagon, the coordinated operation, involving B-2 stealth bombers and Tomahawk missiles, successfully disabled Iran’s uranium enrichment capabilities. President Donald Trump has called the mission a “success” and warned Tehran against any retaliation.
Iranian officials have sharply condemned the strike, suggesting a response is being considered.

Intelligence agencies have advised major U.S. cities, including Washington, to adopt what they call a “heightened precautionary posture.”
“I have a feeling this has been planned for months,” said Jim Ortte, a national security specialist. “The intelligence community here in D.C. has already begun scanning social media and tracking any potential radicals. They’ve likely gotten a head start on this.”
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has ramped up patrols throughout the District, particularly near:
Synagogues and mosques
Foreign embassies
High-traffic public areas like the National Mall and Dupont Circle

Despite rising international tensions and increased chatter online, MPD and federal authorities reiterated that there are no specific or credible threats to D.C. at this time.
